Hi all, I just purchased a cal 2-30 with a Buhk DV 20. I've read online that this engine requires 30 weight oil. The only oil I've been able to find is non detergent 30 weight that is sold as compressor oil. Any thoughts

Look more carfully. I use Shell mono grade SAE 30 in my diesel engines. Easy to source

Modern engines are all using multigrade so you wont find it at the counter in an autoparts shop. Visit the local agricultural equipment shop. They will have barrels of it.

Many Marine gearboxs also use mono grade...check your local marine engineering shop

All of the usual auto parts stores sell straight 30 weight oils, in most of the common brands. I'll still recommend a multi grade 30 though, as cold start up is the most damaging and a straight weight is at it's most disadvantaged, during this time. A 10W30 in your climate will be just fine and is one of the most common oil grades available anywhere.
