    Thus, a ship had arrived in the area a few days after the capsizing under the guidance of Adrien Hardy, commissioned by the insurance because of his expertise in the field, in an attempt to bring back the damaged elements of the boat.

    After 10 days at sea in difficult weather conditions, the tug arrived in Vigo. The first observations allowed Team Banque Populaire, who arrived on the spot, to observe that the Maxi Banque Populaire IX had deteriorated sharply.

    The insurer will now be able to begin its expert work.
    Banque Populaire and its team have been working for several days to study the various possible rebounds for the Banque de la Voile, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2019.

    Ronan Lucas, Director of the Banque Populaire Team:
    "Despite all our efforts, with the storm, the boat is completely dislocated and in the state rebuilding is impossible. We are all very sad about this outcome when we think of all the people who contributed to this fabulous project. We are hard at work to imagine the continuation of this magnificent history with Banque Populaire. "

    Sad terrible news, a so exciting sailing machine. By hoping the insurance coverage can be consequent and Banque Populaire will not give up its sponsoring after such a catastrophe : 12 MEuros + 2 (due to the previous capsize) , more than 135 000 hours of work, quasi impossible to build a new Ultim ready for the next Round the world 2019 race.
    By hoping also that a consistent technical diagnosis of what happenned can be put up, which load case(s) …? , which material failure(s) …? , not evident too !

    A very sad sight.I hope they will share the information about what went wrong and allow everybody to learn a little more about building these epic boats successfully.

    Wouldn't it be tremendous if VPLP and Guillaume Verdier could work together on finding a cause and a solution to the damage on both boats?!

    It would be in the best interests of both,otherwise the first designer to find a solution will be doing all the work on future boats.The rate of progress is best served by having a number of people moving the science forward.
