I had a similar problem with my '87 VP AQ271A (GM 350). Had to rebuilt distributor, replace the electronic ign module in the distributor, new rev limiter, coil and reset timing. Also had low vacuum at the carb (not the intake manifold) problem was wrong gasket between carb & intake.

OK replaced starter!! Runs very well. Is it normal for there to be smoke upon acceleration? It is white/gray? It freaked me out!! Thanks.

23 years old, neglected, serviced by idiots... and it just spits out some gray smoke. You are one lucky lady!

Could be valve seals. Does it go away when it warms up?

The smoke could be from the water injected in the exhaust manifold....for cooling....it should have that...also check the oil...make sure its not milky looking...like cream in your coffee...

I did check oil its clean. ODK love your humor! The smoke occurs when accelerating to plane out and then dissipates. Every time I get in the boat I need a sedative:rolleyes: I love this boat (Celebrity) it rides nice. Needs TLC and at this juncture I refuse to stop until shes looking like new!!;)

Klunk as in jumping in and out of gear?

Time to check the shift cable, it may need some adjustment and a few drops of oil. Avoid the reverse as much as possible, when inevitable use near idle rpm only.

That and some bad weather will help the boat to survive these last 3 weeks.

Thanks for getting back to me. Intermittent clunk in reverse.Reverse worked. So I avoided using the reverse but had to at gas pumps. Now there is no reverse and it started clunking in forward when first put into gear then goes away in about 10 seconds.( just like the reverse) So the boat has not moved. Taking out this week. I have so much money in this boat. The marina that had the boat stated that they tightened the throttle cable? Its going to another marina for repair this time. Thanks Yvonne
