I use a Garmin TR-1 to control the Yamaha kicker on my boat. Works great. I have steering control and throttle but I've always had to go to the transom to shift it. So I got to thinkin' that it would be nice to have the ability to shift it remotely.

I'm wondering if anyone else has used a linear actuator in a situation like this. It seems pretty simple to remove the tiller installed shift cable and replace it with a longer one. I could mount a 12 volt linear actuator inside the transom, under the "transom gunnel" or maybe in the engine compartment. A longer shift cable is easy to get. Any recommendations for a good manufacturer of those actuators? I see some waterproof actuators available with wireless remote capability.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Why not just a Bowden and then you'd shift by feel vs all the adjusting and config with an actuator?

I don't even know what that is Fallguy. Are you talking about a Bowden cable?

I can get shift cables from Yamaha in just about any length I'd like.

I have a wireless remote for the TR-1 autopilot Fallguy. I have throttle and steering capability from anywhere in the boat. I notice that there are linear actuators with wireless capability. I was wondering if anyone had used one of them on their boat for any reason. If they have, I hoped to hear how they liked the set-up and how it worked out.

It seems to me that the Yamaha shift cables would be the same as the cables you suggested.
