hi guys me again... its very difficult to find seller, manufacturer for 5-6 blades surface piercing propeller. i'm from Malaysia, finding in aliexpress, ebay or in the net found nothing, or at least insanely expensive, maybe for 1000HP kind of boats... my target is only for 80-100HP engine, 2000-3000RPM operating speed on a 27' length boat. maybe this will dictates a 12-16" dia propeller? i will design, build and weld my own propeller shaft, surface drive for connection to my inboard engine etc, leave that matter to me outside this thread forum for now, i only want to concentrate and searching for the propeller supply alone proved impossible, its like military secret they dont want to sell in public? and i dont have enough tools to build my own propeller. any idea where i can get cheap and easy source? for the said spec, hence reasonable price? i can make order from ebay or paypal for international order... hope to get some help from you guys.. thanks.

Levi makes some lower power outdrive units. That's all that comes to mind.

What are the specifications of the propeller you need? The amount of blades is only one of the parameters.

other than 6 or 5 blades (fewer blades = more vibration = bad) is the propeller is aimed for 80-100HP engine range, 2000-3000RPM range and can produce efficient/maximum towing/pushing force for the said engine power range... the other parameters are open, let me select from whats available in the market, the problem is, there is no available in the open market. i will KIV the Levi brand, i will contact them later.. i've contacted France Helices earlier (just trying my luck), they sent me a form to fill, boat dimension, COGravity, engine brand and data, gearbox data etc. man, is that all necessary? i thought propeller only is tested in dyno lab and produce RPM vs push force graph plot... why is gear box ratio really matter? i want to design everything including the propulsion drive mechanism, engine and gearbox already settled, i only want a propeller... that looks like a fan thing that we put under the sea, and can produce better push at the said RPM range...

Looks like you need to learn about the basics on how to specify a propeller. Firstly, two bladed surface piercing propellers have been successfully used. The information they ask for is the minimum to give an idea of what type of propeller they will offer you. The gear ratio is necessary to calculate the RPMs at which the propeller will operate. All the boat dimensions, weight, etc. is necessary to calculate the drag at the target speed. However, if you already have calculated what the speed will be with the power you are stating, give the calculations to the them. I am not sure why you need the surface piercing propeller for a boat that has a very modest amount of power though. They are usually specified for high performance applications.

thanks gonzo for explanation... if you remember about 10-11 years ago i registered as new member with enthusiasm to build my own boat system, but got postponed due to time was not suitable, budjet issue, other tasks etc... i remember you were the active guy replying to me back then, and you are still active today, so you are persistent guy, congratulation and thanks for your dedication. now i'm back at this again..

    1) i read/watch youtube sometime ago, 2 or 3 bladed propeller will produce higher vibration due to uneven contact with water surface while piercing... hence i'm looking for more than 3 bladed prop.

    2) about gear ratio, they just can ask me, or care about the output RPM, ie propeller shaft, or propeller intended RPM. they dont have to take care about the engine brand and gearbox etc, to make their task and me easier, imho..

    3) about the boat drag, i only can remeasure dimensions, esp the COGravity when i bring the boat on land on weigh scale. but even if i can give them the width and length and COG. drag will be affected by boat shape right? anyway, they wont get an accurate drag value for my boat, even myself, i'm not marine engineer, but i have basic in mechanical engineering and calculation but prop design is beyond me. the boat i bought 2nd hand that was used as passengers boat, in medium to poor condition with leaks here and there. i'm planning to rectify it with full fiber glass covering when its on land soon..

    4) i already bought the boat, and a 2nd hand automobile engine (mitshubishi 4G15) that was use in proton wira car, with its manual gearbox that i'm going to modify to accept connection to propeller shaft (dont tell me about it, i have enough people telling me its not going to work, i will persist on my experimentation). i dont want the "propeller under the hull" type like most of people do. because our sea is very shallow on shore and many rocks here and there, i want something i can raise above boat's hull when i want to maneuver shallow water (we are in semporna sabah malaysia here).

stern drive option is still insanely expensive online, and not easily manufactured by diy people like me, even if i take an outboard's lower drive and try to modify it. we have a seller selling used stern drive here, but its for larger boat, its unreasonably heavy for my boat size, and hence expensive still. so i want to experiment on surface piercing type, if success, others can follow. buying complete surface drive is also expensive... i emailed surfacedrive.net, they quoted me near $5K tag (not including shipping cost yet for that heavy stuff) for their BH400 model thats suitable for my power range according to them. its way beyond my budget for the drive alone. so i'm thinking to build diy drive, easier to diy compared to sterndrive. i saw some success on youtube diying their surface drive... i already got a lathe machine for this. so what i want now is just a prop, i will find a way to connect to the shaft, i will hire local engineering shop if i have to. that should make the cost several times more cheaper.

fwiw, i already bought a 3 bladed prop from indonesia, about $50 to experiment, its titled as racing prop model number KND250 (shrug), but i have a feeling that its going to be too small for my engine (about 12" dia and very light, let me attach here if i can), its not exactly a SP prop like other high performance manufacturer looks like, but thats the closest thing i can get for now. its ok if i'm wrong, this is just experimentation, and $50 is not hurting really much. so i continue search for affordable more bladed and bigger diameter SP prop. if my attempt on KND250 fail, and no other SP prop option, maybe i will buy a yamaha outboard 80-100HP's propeller and experiment on that, supply is not problem for outboard prop. so now you know my story...

@Shafri , check out @tom kane 's stuff. There's an inexpensive, and quite functional surface drive setup. Quite clever, and will work with the auto transmission just fine. And if you don't know what gear ratio you'll need, now you have 5! Surely one of them will do.

fwiw.. this is the boat i'm talking about (to prove i'm not bluffing). i've measured dimensions (as shown) but i cant determine weight and COG yet, that requires the boat to be on land and weigh scaled. the engine setup also shown without the gearbox, i've overhauled it myself.. engine+overhaul work+part replacement = ~$1K (less), the boat sold at $500. dont laugh, this is the cheapest i can get without breaking the bank. another major cost will be repair and rectify the boat, i dont think building surface drive from some metals will cost that high. i'm currently working on overhauling a 15HP outboard to temporarily tow the boat to the land (90% job done, still waiting for parts purchased online), currently the boat is docking in one island near our place. see, i cant go back from this setup, otherwise, much money willl be wasted. i'm venturing the cheapest possible way for a 80-100HP powered boat. a used (poor to medium condition) 100HP outboard alone here will be about $5K cost and up. once this boat is on land, i can start to rocking it with fiberglass cover and paint... the inboard engine, shaft, drive etc... wish me luck.

thanks for your advice mate, i'll KIV. i'm very "expert" at my gearbox transmission now dont you worry mate ;)... i've dismantled it while overhaul work. i've counted every gear teeth and analyze functioning, rotation etc, and decided on where should i weld a shaft to couple with propeller shaft, dont tell me about it... :p i've spent about a week just to understand this.. yes i dont mind buying prop from some member here, as long as he can post in ebay or accept paypal payment...
