    Hi all,

New to boat building and just wondering what methods boatbuilders use to estimate material costs? In the construction industry there are lots of tables and even professional estimators to help builders quote builds. Is there anything similar in the boatbuilding world? I'm not trying to work things out down to the dime, just broad estimates so I can weigh all the material and cost options out properly.

    Cheers!

If you're building from a set of plans a materials list should be provided .. study plans also should have it. You can estimate from there with suppliers.

The enterprise level CAD packages have costing and other properties integrated into their version management tools. If you are not an enterprise then cost consideration gets pushed to the designer. If you are the designer, you might find that if you use design "Software as a Service" it has the ability included in your monthly subscription, but you must be capable of a virtual build.
