Europe Unveils Plan to Shift From Fossil Fuels, Setting Up Potential Trade Spats
    • The European Commission has laid out a blueprint to pivot away from fossil fuels over the next nine years
    • The most radical proposal would impose tariffs on certain imports from countries with less stringent climate-protection rules
    • It also proposed the elimination the sales of new gas- and diesel-powered cars in just 14 years
    • This commits to law reducing its emissions of greenhouse gases 55 percent by 2030 compared with 1990 levels
    • At the heart of the plan is increased prices for carbon
    • The detailed proposals from the European Union mark only the start of what promises to be a difficult and bruising two-year negotiation among industry, 27 countries and the European Parliament on how to reach the 55 percent reduction
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Gas Oil Petroleum party is still in full denial mode

I guess Europe misses the Dark Ages and wishes them to return. Making sails by hand is very labor intensive. They are going to miss their machines.

Yup. That's the attitude that resulted in most buggy whip companies going out of business when Ford made them obsolete. Hopefully, our resident troglodytes won't be successful in preventing the US from passing regulations similar to the EU's.

The US won't be the only renaming island of sanity in the world, but one of a few, until the rest come to their senses too late. We may lose a few commie inclined states. Some states may break up into new smaller states. More walls to build. I expect to soon see DC diminished to two miles by two miles including the fed buildings and the rest of the city of Washington retro-ceded back to Maryland. The land Virginia donated to DC was retroceded back to Virginia in late 1800s so precedence exists.

Remember when Detroit thought the small economical Japanese Honda Civic was just a passing fad? Who's the biggest seller of automobiles today? Even in the American (land of the big car) market?
    Answer: Toyota, followed by Honda.

This blustery arrogance is perpetual. It has been the attitude by just about every large dominating organization in every age. I wouldn't expect it to make any difference in today's world whether American, European, OPEC or someone else.

That reminds me of a line from Winston Churchill.
I'll have to paraphrase; "The US usually does the right thing,, after it has exhausted all other possibilities".

Sad, but true. No longer a world leader, all too often.

G20 recognizes carbon pricing as climate change tool for first time
    • G20 finance leaders recognized carbon pricing as a potential tool to address climate change for the first time
    • The move marked a massive shift from the previous four years when a certain former U.S. president routinely opposed the mention of climate change as a global risk
    • Other tools include investing in sustainable infrastructure and new technologies to promote decarbonization and clean energy

Unless the senate ratifies a treaty, presidential agreements can be undone in a minute with just a signature by the next president. Like the Paris accord yoyo, yes no yes.. probably no again in 24. Maybe 22?

China Opened a National Carbon Market. Here’s Why It Matters.
    • Last year China pledged that carbon dioxide emissions would peak before 2030 and would achieve carbon neutrality before 2060
    • On Friday, China opened a national carbon emissions trading market for power plants, the world's largest by volume
    • Initially the market was to cover steel making, cement and other industries, but narrowed the scope to cover power plants
    • But this sector is so large that it still covers around a tenth of total global carbon dioxide emissions
    • Companies that cut their carbon output can sell their unused pollution allowances
    • Those that exceed their emissions allowance may have to buy more permits or pay fines
    • Each year the volume of pollution that companies are allowed to release will be cut

    That sentence should read:
"Each year the volume of verbal pollution that leftist politicians are allowed to release will be cut".
Then we may have some peace in our lives.
The entire "Climate Debate" is a non-starter among real people,, you know, those who actually have to work for a living in order to provide for themselves and their families.
Among the real people, the climate issue is about at the bottom of the list of concerns.
The climate issue(s) are much more important to those who need not work to eat, along the ignorant youth who still live in mommy's basement, and the "educated" idiots who have multiple degrees but are clueless about which end of a screwdriver to hold.
