    Hi Guys!

I am interested in commercially manufacturing aluminium microskiffs. I own a rather successful boat building business already where we build aluminium fiahing boats in the range of 12 to 18 feet.

Is there anyone here that could designan aluminium microskiff for us? I need a competent architect that is familiar with ISO and other class society as well. I am interested in exporting them to the US and also western european countries so the vessel has to comply with all the rules.

The skiff would be about 13 feet long, has to fit 2 people, max hp is 20. Aesthetics are to be discussed.

If there is anyone that can help us out and design smaller vehicle like this is please contact me so we can discuss the project.

    Thanks!

I think your big issue is the aluminum. A microskiff needs to be super quiet when stalking fish. That's why glass is preferred. Even V johnboats don't do well on the flats.

What is it about a "microskiff" that requires design skills that the designer of your other 12-18' alloy boats does not have ?

Compliance with a series of regulations that, although normally do not have to be complied with, are required to obtain the "CE" marking. There are more than 100 ISO standards applicable to small boats, for example.
I suppose it is not because of the size but because of the special circumstances of this new project.

Well a number of factors. All of my boats comply with al lthe class society BUT my architects are located in europe and when I mention a micro skiff they have no idea. They could sure design it, but I rather have omeone that has a clue about the style and concept so I dont have to explain, this is the main reason behind me looking for someone. Also I want to export them to the US so knowledge of the local legistlation is preferred as well.

We fill all the cavities with close cell marine grade polyurethane foam so they are stiff and silent as they could be.

My only comment would be that in such a tiny boat, that people will presumably want to stand up in to fish, a reasonably beamy rectangular plan hull would seem de rigeur. Something like this shape: Vnose.jpg

Class societies do not cover small boats. In the USA the USCG publishes a guide for new boatbuilders that will answer all the questions. You should do some market research first. There are many manufacturers making small dinghies already in business. What makes your design different or better?

Yes, it does seem ambitious to be invading a foreign country with such products, there is a sizeable market for small alloy boats in Australia, and foreign penetration is seemingly minimal. There is too much customization involved for mass production standard boats to succeed. Otherwise the Chinese would have moved into it.

Not really, he is asking for someone to design a microskiff to Class Society which makes no sense. There is no Class Society in the world covering little boats.

No, what he says is :
On the other hand it says:
Which does not mean that their boats are classified by any CS. Many designers, until the ISO standards for small boats appeared (and perhaps still today), designed their boats according to the standards of some CS. Many Administrations requested, for example, that the structure be designed in accordance with the standards of an entity of recognized solvency. That led us to use the regulations of some CS.
What this man says and what he needs, for someone knowledgeable about ship design, is very clear and makes a lot of sense.

Would a Sea Sled with it sorta cat hulls give good stability when stopped for stand up fishing?

What is an example of a class society rule other than the ISO rules which was applicable to and used for a boat under 5 m length overall and less than one ton displacement?
