Hey I have a 2001 50hp johnson vro that won't get past about 2500rpms it seems to be In some sort of limp mode I've cleaned the carbs fuel filter and water pump is fairly new with good stream at idle and increased with rpms im thinking it could be the coils, or temp sensor any advice would be completely appreciated?

You should get hold of a workshop manual, if the fuel passages are all clear, it might be a fuel pump problem, but if you have someone squeezing the primer bulb when you gun it, and it still doesn't run properly, that would be excluded.

I had my son pumping the bubble constantly, a few times while trying to build speed and it didn't change the tone its like its hitting a rev limit but at a low rpm I don't have a tachometer so I'm not sure the rpm

Might be dropping a cylinder out, you need a manual and follow troubleshooting procedures

Is it showing an overheat error?

I doubt it would have the "Slow" function that limits rpm when overheating in one of those motors, might be wrong. It certainly existed well before 2001` in bigger engines in the OMC range, but not sure about 50's. In any event, the manual will cover such contingencies.

No there are no alarms or any indication of an error
