    Hi Gonzo,
This is what it looks like from the top. What I will do, is to remove the front, seal the input shaft/gearbox and drop it again in the water. Then we know whether it is the seals or the gearbox. I will still replace the seals and buy new ones. Gearbox1.jpg

This is how I have the seals and bearing and rubber sheet between gearbox and bearing holder. According to me it is in the right way.

You can get seals with stainless springs. Look at the ones used on the shafts of outboards.

Thanks you Gonzo, but for where I am living, it is not so easy to get those at the size I need. But I will still try to get them. But in the meantime I have tested the seals and they do not leak, thus if I don't get those ones with a SS springs, it is not a problem, I use the ones I have.

Although I have been using 140 bolts and nuts with marine silicone on one of those 2 gearboxes. It leaks like anything. My only solution is to use CT1 , a silicone I trust. If that does not help, I have then a real problem. What else could I consider? refer previous 2 photos. Making a gasket? , but I thought that the rubber would do the sealing like a normal gasket.

If it is leaking through the gasket, the sheet metal is probably deforming. That was a usual source of leaks on valve covers and oil pans when they were made of sheet metal. The solution was to add a flat bar along the perimeter as a washer to keep the surfaces flat.

Thanks Gonzo, indeed you are right, I did not expected to deforming over that short distance between the 2 bolts with nuts. Grave mistake from me. Have a look at Google : CT1 sealant and look at you tube various CT adverts That will be my way to resolve it without major modifications. Apparently the marine silicone I bought does not seem to do the job. I personally am very fond of CT1, my only problem is that I cannot purchase it in my country. Even via Amazon. Thus every time I visit Europe I buy a few of those tubes.

Don't laugh, but when I went to the Bolt and Nut center, this lovely young beautiful lady told me: " Why don't you use those nice looking round head with 6 side small allen key. Less drag" I fell for it and used them, the problem was that by tighten the bolts, the allen started to strip and none of the bolts are really very tight. I came to the conclusion that either I have to find a way to tighten them properly , or use old fashion sixt side heads. That little bit of drag is not really a problem. Thanks Gonzo, I will still use CT1, with better bolts.

    That's a funny story.
