Don't use the Duratec primer directly over epoxy with micro balloons in it. It can create bonding problems.

I have a boat of similar hull shape so there is a tested history behind this type of design .This hull does have a slightly finer entry and the forefoot is raised a little. And it has a bit more volume higher up as you have seen. Hopefully it’s an improved ride and not an overshoot into what you have described. My existing boat is exceptional in a following sea and does not have the problems you suggest . But obviously the possibility exists.
There was no budget for a top quality mold and a test boat - but I am comfortable enough with the design to roll the dice.

Hi, thanks yes I am aware of this - I couldn’t find a heat stable polyester filler to use- so went with the epoxy- but now the micro balloons are a problem. I have been told to paint with an epoxy primer before applying the Duratec primer. What would you suggest ? Your input on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Just a coating of regular epoxy works fine, frequently epoxy primer costs more than just epoxy.

Either one needs to be cleaned and sanded prior to applying the primer.

We finally got to the point where we where happy to spray the Duratec primer. Have subsequently spent a lot of time fixing areas we where unhappy with. Plan to respray to get everything uniform and then flat and top coat

Is this 1/3rd or the actual full scale mold?

why would you bother at 1/3rd?

looks interesting, wish I had better comments on the hull...all I am wondering is how it will do at drift; looks like it'll rock some

I, too am surprised you didn't build the boat, test it, modify, then use it as the plug. Errors now you are stuck with?

Yes, 1/3 is unusual. Building a boat as a prototype and modifying it until things work well is common.

This is full size 24.4 foot. The 1/3 rough model was to test if the hull was developable , going from Delftship model to plug using mdf -without strip planking and using as few skin panels as possible.

Obviously there is a lot to consider boat to mold vs plug to mold. But I’m still sleeping at this stage...
Hopefully your surprise doesn’t turn into amusement once the boat is on the water .

At least for me, no amusement if you fail.

Getting on with the deck plug. Used 2 x4 inch steel tube doubled up for strongback and then used 22mm mdf for formers and skins with a few thousand stainless steel decking screws and glue. Fairing with mixfill 80 epoxy next.
We are doing an out turned flange deck to hull joint. We used 2 templates to aline the joint. One in the Z and one in Y plane. Anyone have a better idea for getting an accurate fit for this type of joint( other than building the deck on the hull).

We sprayed the Duratec topcoat yesterday. A bit of orange peel to flat out but otherwise it went ok. For a release we planning on 7 coats of Ram wax and then spraying PVA as per Tunnels instructions on this forum. Would anyone advise against that. Thanks

It looks green in the pics, where did you find Duratec in green?

Interestingly the local Duratec distributor supplies clear Duratec top coat and a pigment of your choice which is added between 3 and 5 percent. We added 3 percent.
