    Hello
I am reading A book called "how to design a boat", but I am always facing terms (like boomkin) and shortcuts (like the one in the title), so please if anyone can recommended a book to learn the following:

    1. boat parts with good illustration and explanation.
    2. shortcuts terms (Lwl, LWL) I don't know what it is called, but any book explain it to me, and learn me how to put it in action.
    Thank You Guys

I see that you want to learn to design boats but you don't even know the basic naval terminology. Why don't you take a dictionary of marine terms, in your language, and take a look at it? As the experts say, you shouldn't start building a house from the roof.

How do you want to read, and understand, a technical book, of any subject, without knowing the terminology of that subject?
Do not look for shortcuts, because you will get lost in the forest. Work hard starting at the beginning.

boat design will have more weird rare words than even aircraft design.

A native English speaking college professor, even a real professor like Mechanical Engineering, will be just as dumbfounded as you when it comes to deciphering Boat Design terms. Like terms related to horsemanship, Boat Design has been its own little world for hundreds of years, and used to be much more important than today, so a lot of the language is semi-archaic.

There SHOULD be a nice on-line Dictionary of Boat Design Terms and Abbreviations on this site, but there ain't.

Go to the central library at King Abdulaziz University and ask for a dictionary of nautical terms. Also ask for a reference book on boat design for first year students.
Otherwise use google to find the meaning, for abbreviations or very short words also use "boat" or "yacht" and "meaning" in the search. For example googling: lwl boat, directly gives you the explanation and the wikipedia article Waterline length - Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterline_length

Thank you very much and you are welcome this is where I live and that is my picture anyway about terms I think dictionary are not the answer, because everyone has a few term in his mind and he is using them, but what I am asking do I really have to care about boat design first, because any craft will not care.

What do you want to do? If you want to design a boat you obviously need to learn about designing it first. If you want to build a boat, just buy the plans of one you like, you don't need to know design to build a boat.

Many books like the one you are reading have a glossary of terms at the back of the book. As has been said, you won't understand unless you learn the terms. It's like learning a new language. You can't read a book in a foreign language until you learn the language. Did you learn math without knowing the terminology?

    Do you need it.? Yes.

Thanks about that sometime I get it wrong, because lately I fix my idea about keel and waterline, because I thought both are the same. anyway I am searching a way to understand diagrams really, because these books are telling me to look at the diagrams and try to understand what depth is or as refer to as "D" but I can't get it is even far way from right to me when I search google <<< and I think using google for everything is the right answer, so please anyway to learn and understand free!ship software or diagrams like this:
