If it is I see no reason why you could not use it. Chopped strand mat is normally the cheapest thing available, sold by the kg.

Dont forget, im in russia-the country of resellers, some of them are ready to go ape **** and sell their mothers for a quick buck....
In other words, mats are sold like all other types of fibreglass, in sq.meters here

Yes I know of all this problems, but there are solutions. For this boat you will need several hundred kg of materials, you don't buy from someone who sells retail to amateurs to patch a hole, you go to the distributors (you are probably to small for manufacturers, but you can always try). The usual problem is that they don't sell to private individuals and don't advertise. The first problem is easy to solve, you become an individual entrepreneur, for the second you need to ask around, they can be found. If everybody is to expensive you can always calculate what it would cost to import from China.

I hope you only tought to use flax for the mold, not the actual boat. For a boat you need fabrics made to be used for composites, not "normal" garment fabric.
 
You know, sometimes one gets excited by new ideas. ;):D Happens to me, it takes me a while to find out my latest ideea was not so bright after all.
 
Another dumb question, is it possible to make a somewhat reliable temporary mast out of foam+epoxy or ill be better off with wood? because RESELLERS here asking about TEN TIMES more for used masts and in Europe, any info on that will be greatly appreciated.
 
Hollow wood is cheaper, but it is possible to make a carbon mast at home. The problem is usually engineering the carbon layup to the home builder abilities.
For a Al mast all you have to do is fire up the engine and cross the border into the EU. You can raise it there and I doubt anybody will notice that you departed Russia as a motorboat and came back with a mast standing. If you are afraid of that you simply take a piece of wood, paint it silver and rig it up as a placeholder. Once in Helsinki or Tallin or somewhere else you buy the real thing and that's it.

Yeah, but I'm afraid if i need to get to Sweden, for example, to buy a used boat with somewhat acceptable equipment to outfit my boat-it will need a LOT of fuel, i believe, it probably will be girl jugs everywhere don't you think?
 
For non competitive sailing (cruising, racing for fun) you do not need to buy any "yachting" equipment. A wooden mast, spruce or good pine, hollow rectangular section, with mild steel galvanized (or just painted) fittings, and commercial galvanized wire rigging is perfectly acceptable. Blocks you can also make, no need to buy. The only thing complicated are the winches, so you either find a good machine shop and make some, or use block cascades like in the old times. Such a setup can go around the world twice without problems.
