Boom! Good work, Angel - it is An Sgurr on Eigg! Not from Rum though...

Seen from Eilean Chathastail the profile as shown on alamy looks to me to be the opposite of your pic, hence my guess was it was seen from Rùm.

I'll go for the northwest side again, maybe it's a view from the Bay of Laig area on Eigg itself looking towards An Sgùrr, as might be shown here . . . ?

‘‘Coast near Laig Bay’’ with camera position ‘‘56°55'19.0"N 6°09'23.8"W’’ it says, but I'm not sure that's correct.

This view from Eilean Chathastail towards Eigg and An Sgùrr also popped up for me, it looks to me like the other side is shown in the puzzle...

Here's a view from 56°56'06.8"N 6°09'06.8"W on north Eigg at night looking towards An Sgùrr I believe, beautiful view with near matching profile, but it's not taken from the water's edge, but looks to be close though.

Near town of Arisaig on Loch nan Ceall (Highway A830)?

Props to AII for the peak ID.

Thanks IN, An Sgùrr's profile seems to match as seen from a bit north of Arisaig from the Estuary of Morar Bay at the mouth of the River Morar next to the A830 at 56°58'11.8"N 5°50'22.2"W (that's a view from in the estuary ± 852 m ~ 932 yard 2,796' west of the road), but it could be from a larger distance than in the puzzle . . ?

Arisaig it is - from the tea room on the pier though to be fair the profile of the island doesn't change much all along that coast. The island's profile is so distinctive I asked for the location for a little more challenge. An Sgurr even looks similar from the south, albeit the other way round - here it is viewed from Mull a couple of years back.

So... By the rules it is Imaginary Number's turn, though Angelique did do a deal of the leg work... Well done both!

Morar was one of the locations used in the lovely (slightly sentimental?) film 'Local Hero.' The coast from Arisaig to Mallaig 'the Road to the Isles' has become a popular holiday destination, particularly after the opening of the new road. Prior to that, the only route was via 30 miles of incredibly tortuous single track road - the last single track 'A' road in the uk, iirc. There's also some interesting houses in the area:

This one, designed by RAW architects, is currently for sale, for an asking price of a little over £500k

We're doing this together as it would be harder and much less fun to do it alone, but no matter who brings in some clues, the first right answer of the asked for location wins the puzzle, so Imaginary Number is the rightful winner of this one, congratulations . . :)

I have a historic puzzle in mind were the location info of the pic has been lost, but that can wait till I've truly won a puzzle here.

Good luck with putting up a new one, and Tiny thanks for the previous !

This quest brought to mind this Scottish proverb:
Be happy while you're living, for you're a long time dead.

    Re post #6067:

Adrian's pic from the tea room on the pier in Arisaig looking over Loch nan Ceall towards Eigg and An Sgurr is strikingly the same as Robert Kelsey's painting of which he states it's a view from Morar, but that seems to be some artistic license regarding the location, as from the search picture's location and from Google street view I'm sure Robert settled down on the lawn in front of the tea room in Arisaig for this painting . .

Below's a screenshot from Google street view from the tea room on the pier in Arisaig looking over Loch nan Ceall towards Eigg and An Sgurr...

Following Tiny's lead, what is the mountain, and for extra credit, where was the photo taken from?

Sorry for the poor quality image. It was taken through the windshield of a car, while driving at 60mph, with telephoto and a dirty CCD. I didn't stop to take a better photo because I thought I'd see it again from a better vantage. Alas, the weather conspired against me...

Is it in any sense related to, or to be seen from, boats, ships, seas, any navigable waters, etc ?

As this is what posters on this thread kinda agreed on about a decade ago, don't know if that still counts, but I would be in favour of it, as that's what this forum is about.
