Why I'm Following Sven Yrvind

Oh, btw, not much of a trick actually, but I did predict a month ago Sven would sail to Azores, and return to Sweden to build a new boat

 

I was the only "Almost certainly" vote. I still think he will get there, just not in the very near future.

This sounds like the 'form follows function vs function follows form' circle chase.

How many years has he been doing this? How many boats has he made? Is there some sort of goal he's trying for?

I imagine he doesn't have to worry much about his boat getting stolen.

I've read it. Mostly boulderdash.

 

It's Sven's opinion about facts, which he is free to have and to proclaim, and the rest of the world is free to read and to discuss it, and also to not to do so for the ones who prefer that.

 

I'll rephrase: In my opinion mostly boulderdash.

 

I didn't get very far before I couldn't stomach it. In my not very humble opinion.

But he has not yet hurt anyone - that's better than a lots of people nowdays.

 

What do you think about his claims about how safe his boat is ? To me it looks like a death trap... How does someone move the mast single handedly when there is virtually no flat deck space to walk on and no railings nor shrouds to hold onto, while bobbing around on such a tiny lively cork ?

 

If you don't like what he says, why pick at nits?

With some other public figures, when something irrational or lying is presented, I just add to the scorecard as to why I don't like him and go on.

Sven can always pick his time to make a change.

 

Sven has never hurt anybody physically as far as I know, but once he had a conflict with an oil company over the use of his land, and set of some smoke grenades at their headquarters, and was subsequently seized by the oil company's security personnel . . .

 

Sven's boats from the last decades are operated from the hatches, where he stands on the bottom of the boat and is firmly supported around his waist by the hatch coamings.

 

If you read his spiel, he makes much of moving the mast around, there are 3 different positions for the rear mast. He cant do that standing in the companionway.

 

Ah, the peaceful Swedes.... I was stationed at a military base in Namibia where in 1978 a sapper was kidnapped by Swapo. In the process several other soldiers were killed and another captive who refused to join the forced march into Angola was bayoneted to death 26 times, well that team of insurgents had embedded Swedish reporters who wanted to make a movie of the whole thing, perhaps they changed their minds after seeing how much death and destruction was involved... ExLex II and her predecessors have no cockpit and thus no companionway, but have about three hatches spread over the boat's length, so all the boat's operations can be done from there.
