My dad was a B-29 turret gun instructor. Missing him.

Maybe of a little comfort Hoyt, your dad doesn't miss the world I think, his job is obsolete by now.

Even his career became obsolete. He was a printer. Specifically he was a linotype operater before Pearl Harbor which well suited him to his military role. Linotypes became obsolete as he was reaching retirement. All the fonts went digital.

Military assignments personnel have an odd sense of humor and don't think about things too deeply. Linotype - that's a bunch of fast moving little pieces of lead, right? yeah, we got an assignment for you.:D

I bet the guy that assigned Lt. Passwaters to be the USAF aircraft urinal engineer didn't have to buy beer for a month (1980s).

Lt. Starbuck worked recruiting under Capt Rodgers - Capt Buck Rodgers. (This was when Battlestar Galactica was on TV.)

Old Dutch folk song, 'Al die willen te kaap'ren varen' (Dutch link), inspired by a more violent French version from Dunkirk.

In Dutch it's about pirates, and just as it looks like in the vid about beards, the name of the here performing band is Fungus . .

    It's about steel boats I believe, as she sings . . . Temporarily lost at sea . . .
