Besides the initial cost, you need to consider the upkeep, general expenses like insurance food, fuel , docking customs, etc. Another large expense will be wages for the crew. At the stage you are in, and the lack of experience, the best solution is to hire someone to guide you along. This is typical of purchases of large yachts. People that have owned several yachts will hire an expert to inspect/survey the vessel and supervise any repairs or modifications. Also, a professional captain is the norm.

Go to any marina, post a notice you are available as free crew for any destination.
Once, you have an interview with a prospective captain, use your best judgement as to the likely hood they may be an abusive personality. Make sure you have plane fare to return if you decide to abandon ship somewhere. Be aware, it is illegal to abandon ship, or miss it's sailing, in some ports.

Another alternative I heartily recommend, enroll in a maritime academy. after the classes, they send you aboard ships as a cadet to gain experience.

A third alternative, charter a boat with a captain, and explain you want instruction and a mentor.

i do not recommend buying this wooden boat. Too old, the wood most likely deteriorated. But it IS an example of Gonzo's opinion, cheap used boats are available in USA

Used 1940 US Navy 73' Naval Vessel, 94606 Oakland - Boat Trader https://www.boattrader.com/boat/1940-us-navy-73-naval-vessel-7258099/

I ran a small one hundred passenger sternwheeler on upper Mississippi river one season.
    TWO HOUR EXCURSION CRUISES.
The bar made more money than the ticket sales and dinners did.
I was training their local captain of choice, who had no experience.
It was a startup business. A success from first day of operation.

Being a citizen of Europe, migration to Canada might be legally easier than to the USA.

    Aye arrr taking it easy.
Lots of old wooden boats about but rot wins them all eventually. Unless you are a minesweeper why is wood necessary?
