I was Merchant Marine and including Navy time, spent fifty years at sea. All over the world. Worked in Mexico, my deep sea tug contracted to Pemex, for six years.

KFK's are the biggest ship series ever buildt in Germany. 612 of them were made between 1942-1945 and at the end of the war there still were around 450. After the war another approx. 150 were constructed, mainly in East Germany and Poland. There are probably still around 50 of them in existance in various state, from fully operational to basicly wrecks. The biggest concentration is in Germany and Poland, but they can (or could) be found all over the world.
The boats initial concept was an armed coastal patrol ship, with the hull based on an earlier fishing trawler design. After the war they did minesweeping duty, then got converted to fishing, then to yachts. They' were extremly popular for sailing yacht conversions because the original hull design done in the 30's was specificly designed to also sail, and they have proven to be very capable sailors under a variety of rigs. The hulls are very rugged, 80mm pine planks on steel ribs. The ribs were all done centrally as a kit (faired, and it is said the fairing was exceptionally good and consistent) and delivered to the boatyards for assembly and planking. After the war a lot of the newbuilds were oak on oak, some originals got new oak planking and some even a steel skin.
The last one I saw for sale was a GDR oak on oak, original engine, still with fishing gear and with a years life inspection left, 5000€.

    Aesthetics is important to you?
That can be cured cheaper than a total new build.
Not as easy as cut and paste, but it's good for concepts trawler cut and pate.jpg

If you think it is never done, I ran a World War 2 ex-Navy ATA tug, 147 feet long, that they welded a three deck high superstructure from a C4 freighter on its top deck. The bridge wings stuck out wider than the hull.

cut and paste? no, torch and weld.

    HERE ARE PICTURES.

Appears they trimmed her bridge wings after I was her captain. Good thing, too! the black hulled middle picture, she still had the too wide wings, though not obvious in the photo.

and i dont understand why people keep bringing up 1-12 million prize tag. The world isnt a Flat Disc containing only the United States. you can get Operational Daysailing/Chartercruisers starting from ~250k up to 1.6kk. from Dutch Sailclippers to Brigs and 3 Masted Tallships.

as said no Kfk's for Sale currently without some deeper digging, the fishing tour ones should go for sale again around september/october when season is over.
doesnt mean i dont know where some are Docked;). i will keep my eyes open and let you know Leon if i find one for sale. its sometiems dificult to spot them because early ones had a round Stern and not a Flat Transom like the ones build in the late Series.

Because it is a realistic price for a ship that is in good condition. The USA is notorious for the low prices on used boats. Also, you are posting a 59 foot instead of the 100-120 foot length the OP is requiring. There is a huge difference in price, of which regulations take a large part.

    Leon
What is your intended employment for your ship, once you acquire one?
Pleasure cruising, treasure hunting, cargo freight business, passengers charter or floating gambling casino, a movie prop, a support craft for your private island future colony, a floating luxury apartment that never leaves the dock?
Purpose dictates which type of craft is most suitable. What purpose have you in mind?

Yeah i saw those, maybe for
It would amazing if you can put me in contact with treasure hunters, cargo freights l, ir private floating casinos currently looking for crew. I dont really have experience i this regard but i really want to learn and i have time. Im starting to think that i will need to join a crew in order to get experience first before i start thinking in my own pirate community.
