The world has not been dragging its feet attempting to get greater efficiency in jet drives, you would have to be a supreme optimist to think you are going to achieve some quantum leap that has evaded everyone else.

This article compares the same boat with an outboard, jet drive and sterndrive. It defines performance parameters and power output of each powerplant. By comparison, the OP is simply making unfounded claims and providing no experimental or theoretical data.

You'd have to say, jet drive would be the last choice for a battery electric boat application

    John,
Thank you for your words and while I respect those with differing opinions and I would be first to admit that I get a bit testy when I'm challenged about something, when sitting looking at evidence validates my statements. Been several years since I owned a boat, however it hasn't been that many since some of my trips on RIBs down range. Yes there is a highly modified Nitro in my facility that currently has a 380 hp Tesla designed, developed and tested power plant equipped with Tesla certified battery pack rated for 19.2 hours that are half the size and 1/3 the weight of those are currently commercially available. My assumption being that it came from a Tesla/Spacex program. I will admit my thread is misleading as I am much focused on the military application...it saves lives.

Perhaps your right, but I would suggest I have two RIBs in my facility that have plug in power plant modules that suggest differently. They lack pumps that are both efficient enough and have a low enough acoustic signatures to meet specifications.

    Sir,
I didn't join this group to make claims. Rather I came seeking thoughts regarding jet pumps inefficiency and acoustic signatures.

Glass half full... guilty as charged. My optimism however is tempered with a lifetime of realism and experience. Here's my thoughts; characteristically we have accomplished new concepts 1st through brute force before discovering more effective and sophisticated methods and design to solve the myriad of issues that came along with the wheel. The jet pump has become my "wheel" and this not my first rodeo with it either. I've long appreciated the potential and challenges of more efficient and quieter jet drive, but the enormity of that didn't hit home until I zipped a body bag closed on a friend and fellow operator after mission down range. One, in retrospect when stealth would have significantly improved the odds had we not announced Spec ops were in country.

Not sure what relevance disclosing that would contribute to the discussion.

However, you have only make claims that stretch credibility. Also, you have not defined basic parameters like efficiency and acceptable noise/frequency levels. In short, you refuse to commit yourself to a verifiable claim. You only insist that proof exists.

I was just trying to establish if these specifications are generated by you, or a potential customer. Realistically, any substantial improvement in the MPG of existing jet boats would be big news, and a goal aimed at by all makers over many decades, the idea that your in-house think-tank is going to be the one to do it, is a long-shot. In the case of boat noise, a directly approaching planing boat is often announced by the slap of waves on the bottom, above other noise.

I choose to be both measured and a
The specification are not mine, through I was and will continue ongoing consultation to develop the end result. I am not authorized to divulge any additional information in that regard. A std. 150 hp outboard has an acoustic signature of 195 db at full throttle, I believe that to be correct. With regards to your statement regarding the "announcing" I would agree, but further add that there materials, some that were developed as far back as 1940 , while labor intensive to install have shown to be effective to abate acoustic attenuation in certain frequencies. There some of the more currently available products that show more potential, particularly for our applications.

What might be interesting, is the weight of the batteries and motor, and the total KWH available for use, before recharge, rather than the "special ops" talk.
