26' Trimaran refitt

whether I'm chemical engineer or chief engine is pointless right now.
I just asked whether move aft the stern crossbeam would make sense, that's all. I saw plenty of designs not that modern in which the cross beam is at the end of the cockpit so do my question. I'f i¡m not gonna save weight nor speed nor confort then wont do it.
I'm planning to use it as a daysailor and have fun thats it.

Thanks for your detailed answer mate.
Lets get this straight:
I dont want to add weight but reduce it as much as possible, i.e. by replacing rotten or useless plywood by carbonfiber board (pretty cheap nowadays)
I dont want to increasse the sail area, already check with sailmaker and with existing rigging a square head main will gain max 3 sqm and will have to reef earlier. Move down and increase the boom will be almost same gain and more pain for pocket...
What I just want do is refit and redesign the entire cokpit and deck i/o to be more practical and confortable for daysailing. Although I'm living in North East Scotland I'm not planning to sail here but in the South West of Spain and Portugal (which is just 3h away). I will sail with both light and medium winds.
A bimini is not my cup of tea for a sailboat and I fully agree about the winches, silly amount of them, made down under by the way...Maxwell NZ

You didnt bother mate. See this post Hughes 26? https://www.boatdesign.net/threads/hughes-26.33265/page-2 and the position of the aft corss beam on this pretty similar to mine KH 26'.

Hi Al, I have an idea..by using aluminium tubing as a frame that steps up from the rear cross beam you could make canvass slung seating that sits out and is parallel to the cockpit gunnels , think raised tremolino seating, you may want to remove the rear winches.If your going to add a little wind resistance anywhere aft is best.
Those winches would be very handy for beaching using rubber tube under the main hull however,.. first drop a heavy anchor out ..Reefing points in the main are important, cheers

6 winches 2*maxell 20 + 2*maxwell 22 + 2*30 lewmar ST are way a lot for this rigging with furling jib and asymetrical there are also 10 stoppers for halyards ???

 

Hi there, it has been a while since last time I posted, very busy over the last few months and not precisly working on the tri. I was finally able to manage 1 full week to start up the refitting.

Cross beam had to be sawn, mostly due to they havent been unmounted in years. I'm planning to weld them back or alternatively build lighetr new ones, not a big deal.

Then after I toof off the rigging and removed all hardware, winches and clutchers, jib travellers, mast base, net rings, handrails and instruments. Secondly I pullet out all the sh*t the previous owners fitted inside the cabin: lining, insulating cork (?), wires and plywood all in rotten condition.

I'm now in the process of reshaping the deck of the main hull, stern and bow by cutting stupidly added appendices. I also noted the daggerboard is too heavy thus the foam core will be soak. All in all there's a lot of job to do although right now nothing else than sanding, glassing and fairing.
