Here's one of the a day later posted reports of the about 40 dismastings, and more reported trouble....

About growing up in Van Lear, that must have been hard times when working all night in the coal mines wasn't enough to feed a family, and all day subsistence farming was needed to be done too . . .

Dutch Belgian beach news - Sunday - June 30 - 2019

Some beach guests were in Vlissingen (Flushing in English) washed off the beach by the wake or rather the bow wave of a ship, and were pulled into the Western Scheldt by the returning water, most swam back to shore, three needed to be rescued, no deaths and only minor injuries were reported.

Below the North Sea beach as it was left in Blankenberge, ± 25 tons of garbage per summer weekend is cleaned off the short (65 km) Belgian coast.

Butcher Hollow(pronounced Holler) runs east of where our house stood and Miller's Creek, where I learned to fish, runs through it. We never ate the fish I caught there because the hills above held too many outhouses. Running north from where our house stood is Possum Hollow, (pronounced Holler).

 

Yes, I've noticed Loretta sang about Butcher Holler, and some also write it that way...

I've just learned the town of Van Lear KY is named after Van Lear Black, who at sea had the dangerous habit of sitting on the rail while smoking, and so fell to his death off the back of his yacht Sabalo off the coast of New Jersey. The boat itself has an interesting history, she was built in 1916 as a private yacht, then went into USN service (USS Sabalo SP-225) during WWI, after which she resumed her life as a private yacht, then went into RCN service (HMCS Cougar Z 15) during WWII, and later resumed her life as a private yacht again, not being available anymore for any future WWIII, as she sank to her final destination during a hurricane at Kingston, Jamaica, in 1950.
