I hadn’t seen that, thanks for sharing. Pretty cool. There seems to be a resurgence of portable pop-up camping rigs like car topable units and in-bed setups. Certainly this setup has a lot going for it in that it is self contained and removable. You could almost disconnect it, hike it up on land to a remote camping spot and boom instant tent! Also like that it likely has ability to act as just a hard deck when not popped.

One of the nice things about the camper shell I ran on SolGato last season was that the shell had a reinforced top that could hold substantial weight, so you could climb up on top and sit or stand on it while operating the boat. I also fabricated a custom SS cargo rack that doubled as a handrail when walking around the perimeter. A few trips we strapped paddle boards to the top and went as far up as the river width would allow, then tied off and continued the rest of the way on SUP’s.

Thanks! Yes a 356 Vintage Speedster replica I pulled out of the jungle where it sat with a piece of plywood over it for 7 years with no top and full leather interior. Had to rebuild everything mechanically, left the jungle patina. Our tropical environment is so harsh, I ended up building most systems with a marine environment in mind -new floors from stainless, outdoor tractor bucket seats with drain holes, bed lined interior, marine fuse panel, lots of stainless and aluminum, etc.. I build, customize, and restore vintage autos and motorcycles in addition to my wacky boat projects.
