Just watched this very cleverly done small boat fitted with Hydrofoils, getting around 32 kph on a 5 HP motor.
It seems this guy was a former pilot. The workmanship shows a really professional approach.

That's amazing. Also probably the best hydrofoiling video ever recorded :D

interesting that he uses foils for steering and roll control. be nice to have some video from a distance of this in addition to "selfie" shots.

He should get impressive range for his speed. I calculate 40 to 50 mpg. The real number might be even higher.

I am a sucker for technical books.
Following up on that small Foiling Boat, I found this source of "how to build a foiler", and bought the book from Amazon.
This guy has a unique sales pitch, telling you not to buy his book.

For goodness sake, someone talk me out of building a small foiling power boat, please !

Ok, that's easy. THE BOOK EXCLUSIVELY USES THE IMPERIAL SYSTEM!!! ;)

The other thing that annoys me about the book is the lack of tables or appendix for foil shapes and lift / drag / reynolds values.

The book is good otherwise! It's just an annoyance. I thought we were being ironic here :D

There is "Hydrodynamics of High-Speed Marine Vehicles - Odd M. Maltinsens" with a chapter on hydrofoils, but it also doesn't have tables and the ray velinga book is more accessible. I haven't finished reading either yet.

I don't quite understand the difference between the theory in the book and theoretically achievable values for lift and drag and real life values. It all seems too good to be true if you start to play around with javafoil (or x-foil)

OK. I'll try. Build a large one.

    Nice find.
Nothing really new, but seems to be well done.
    And well integrated together.

I'd like to see you do one, Watson.

I think it is, without a doubt, the best book on designing and building small power foilers and it has some good stuff on the Moth. It thoroughly covers the basics. There is not another book that I've found that even comes close!

PS-----Build the boat!! But you'd enjoy it more if it had sails.........

It seems to me that you don't have to design a new foil from scratch when there are perfectly acceptable foil sections already available like the H105 and the 63412.

Thanks Doug. Seems I have found my problem, I looked up the 63412 and when I put it into JavaFoil I seem to get way too high values compared to airfoiltools. Must be a bug in JavaFoil since I never make mistakes ;)

this appears to be the same person as the one in the OPs link. This time it's a canoe.

That was about two years earlier from what I could tell.
I don't know that I could stick some bolts into such a pristine timber canoe. Maybe that's why he built the later boat.
