The family did the right thing.

Broken priority is a horrible problem.

The boat looks very far along into the build.

    Too bad the builder passed.

The epoxy looked ok. Some of it will have to be sanded and another coat or two applied. As you probabaly know you should not leave epoxy exposed to sunlight unless you put in an additive to reduce the UV that attacks it.

I am getting her ready for the trip to Greene Marine in Yarmouth then taking her up there to at least begin the finishing process. The season to work on her is mighty short up there but the experts are there AND the yard fees are VERY reasonable compared to anything in the Chesapeake or points south! So I will want to move her south by at least the early summer of 2020. Luckily I have a large monohull in South Florida to sail in the winters until I get her done!

I believe they did, it took quite awhile to find someone (me) that had the funds, organizational skills, boat restoration skills, and the funds to get her lifted and moved to the water. It is going to cost $15,000 just to get her to the water! I have a lot of the parts and materials needed to get her pretty far along and have already purchased a mast, rigging, and sails for her. I am eager to get started on her once it warms up a bit up there!

That's moving her over 100 miles north first, Greene Marine looks good, is that another Simpson Liahona they have there already . . ?

( BTW, the southwest corner of the picture is another business. )

Godspeed on the trip over there, and on finishing her . . !

P.S. - please keep us updated on your progress with the project . . :)

Yes, it is quite far north but Walter Greene is the expert on Trimarans and he has already looked over the one in Peabody and is both impressed and has some good ideas to improve it. I will be doing the majority of the work myself except for stepping the mast and possibly some modifications to the cockpit as it is unusually small. I will keep you posted.

    Re post #25: - - Good find Richard . . :)

That's the same one as pictured in post #20 on Walter Greene's yard, she was built by an originally Dutch* guy, who lives now in Lunenburg on Nova Scotia, so not huge far away from Greene Marine in Yarmouth ME.

    * hence the Dutch Bruynzeel mahogany marine plywood I think, which is absolute world top class!

Below from Cruising World Jan. 1989, page 110...

The current location on Walter Greene's yard is the perfect place for DIY work on this project and get professional advice and hired help when needed to get her fixed, and work side by side with Birdsey on his Simpson Liahona from Peabody MA, so if desired they can assist each other with work and/or advice.

See e.g. this single multi slip at 52°46'09.8"N 5°07'05.8"E with a Grainger TR10 for sale in the Netherlands, see also the double multi slip a few meters west of it, which also can be used by a single huge beam multi of ± max 16.5 m (54.1') width, if not the wallet then the sky is the limit for slip width, however there's less choice in marinas for the very broad-beamed ones...

    boat slip 16.76 m width.jpg - boat slip 9.85 m width.jpg

    Grainger TR10: L × B × D = 10 m (32.8') × 8 m (26.25') × 0.5 / 1.3 m (1.6' / 4.3')

    vs. a Simpson Liahona: L × B × D = 13.1 m (43') × 8.2 m (27') × 0.9 / 2 m (3' / 6.5'), which fits the same slip.

Shallow draft is a huge advantage underway . . .

One of the main reasons for the Skoota 32 I am building is the beachability and the shallow draft. But I gotta rent two slips at 5m beam. Of course, this adds little to the discussion. We need to see some pictures from Birdsey!
