Mercedes + Cigarette and we're back at boats . . . for the power, ‘‘Merc’’ stands for Mercury there . . . .

The pre Ewings ? - Giant (1956 official trailer) Mercedes McCambridge was one of them, and it was James Dean's last one . . .

In my previous post it doesn't say ‘‘Gurkha’’, but ‘‘Ghurka’’, below the image it says ‘‘Ghurka bag logo’’.

    Ghurka is an bag brand...

About the Gurkhas, there seems to have been different uniform and headdress styles over time . . .

Yes the headdress of the left is Gurkha, very different from the painting.
The spelling of Gurkha doesn't matter as it is an English translation of a Nepalese word, and there are several different version of the spelling of the name.
While driving home I realised I'd seen the head dress before. My mistake is it's not Sikh, but a regional style but the west of India and also Pakistan .

John Hyatt Illustration Ghurka bag logo.jpg

I think we need John Hyatt's input to know why he'd drawed the Ghurka bag logo in that headdress and clothing style, but he's known for his jokes . . .

John e.g. rendered the best known and often held for real of the fake Shackleton adverts, there are just so many different ‘‘originals’’ out there, while not one original newspaper source was ever found, the Antarctic Circle has put up a $ 100 contest (plus a case of Madeira) to find the original source for some years now . . .

John Hyatt's version, see the emails in the last above link.

from Julian Lewis Watkins's book: ‘‘ The 100 Greatest Advertisements 1852-1958 - Who Wrote Them and What They Did. ’’

Of every around 1900 London newspaper there are printed originals in archives, not one of them has such an advert by Shackleton.

Note ‘‘honor’’ is in US spelling, and not in the British spelling ‘‘honour’’, just a little mistake, like in Julian Lewis Watkins's advert book . . ;)

You see the skull! I took the picture there in April of 2008 . I went back in May 2019 and the lighting was such that it was hard to make out. Hint: It's a west coast island in the USA, and salt water

Long shot... Mount Baker ? - Here's the Where is this? thread . .

P.S. - I didn't see the three posts after the picture before posting this one, I should have looked further first, but since Mt Baker isn't on an island it can't be correct.
