Considering how much she cost that's a hell of a good deal. I wonder if they're building another proto from the tooling? As far as I know they never did put the big rig Dr. Sam designed on the boat-too bad. As is she takes off in about 7 knots of wind. Dr. Sam and I talked a lot about light air takeoff.......

 

Just want to share my short video from the weekend. It has been the best and warmest summer since 200 year in Sweden. Ok like a regular day in Florida I guess. Anyway, good sailing with great wind. Speed about 10-12 knot upwind and 12-17 knot downwind.

 

Breathtakingly beautiful! And I like the music, too.....

Cholson kindly offered me the second A-cat hull, that was left from his trimaran build. Intend to build a close to square 18ft foiling tri. At first without foils and with half a windsurfingboard as ama on each side, later with either T, V or surface piercing foils. Without making any calculations I am sure a 100x2mm, or even a 90x2mm, round aluminium tube will be more than sufficient as main beam. Anyway something to do and lay your hands on, to make it through the long Swedish winter.

 

Lars-sounds like a great project-good luck! Would it be worth searching for a used carbon tube-mast or?- instead of an aluminum tube?

 

Looking for an A-cat mast, carbon or alu, I don´t care. I like Doug Halsey´s intelligent low budget concept.

But the main purpose of posting about it is to possibly spark the imagination and help any one interested in a similar 18' foiler to see one way of doing it. Dr. Sam Bradfield was one of the greatest foiler pioneers in history and his designs are worthy of consideration and study by anyone seriously interested in a foiling multihull.
This boat ain't no frog-it actually gets up on foils and flies and with the bigger rig Dr. Sam intended for it she would fly in a 5 knot breeze.
