    Hello there

We design new scruber system for ship under DNV-GL rules. On overboard pipe we need to place bracket. Pipe material is black steel.

    I got following question:
#1. I have checked some of past project we design. On them brackets are welled directly on shell and overboard pipe, but not to hull side frames. ( I have not worked on those projects )
#2. On other project there is 50mm or more gap between shell and brackets ; brackets are welded to side frames and overboard pipe. ( I have worked on those projects )

From my personal expirience variant #2 is better.
Did search in design and can't find exactly rule for bracket design/placement.Does somebody can guide me to rule / advices would be appreciated.

    Regards
    Todor

You need to ensure 2 things:

    1) Tee thickness of the plate in way of the penetration is at least 1.5 times the nominal plate thickness it is penetrating - a doubler would suffice
    2) You need to support the penetration in 2 axis to prevent vibration.

    Hi and thanks for reply
    1) agree
    2) there would be 3 or 4 brackets ( 3x120dege; 4x90deg ) with thickness 8/10mm depending on position&arrangement of nearby structures

I cant understand marked in attached image. What consideration behind this ?

You only need 2, both at right angles to each other.

No idea, you'll have to ask the person that drew it.

I think the persons that drew it also have no idea :) - I think its copy-paste from other ship.
