Bow thruster in forpeak??

Hi Guys..

For one of our conversion project of oil tanker (134m lenght) we are planning to install one Bow thruster in fore peak tank by making one vertical conduit..
However typically forpeak tank is used as void or ballasts tank, can we use it machinery space??
Any specific requirements from class??

You can use the forepeak, if there is enough space or if the decrease in volume does not affect the necessary ballast in the peak, but you must make watertight, the machinery compartment of the bow truster.

Consult the regulations of the CS or one of its inspectors.

 

In case of any regulations by CS it would be related with the vessel's Class Notation. Almost all equipment regulation in vessels such us oil tankers, gas tankers, etc. it depens on its cargo type and the considered compartment specifically (dangerous area, non-danderous area, explosive atmophere, etc.).

 

I do not believe that the position of the bow peak bulkhead or its volume is related to the "Class Notation" although, of course, the position of the forepeak bulkhead is regulated by the rules of the CS.
