Which is better: Propeller vs. Paddle

    In terms of speed, efficiency and stability which will be better option to use as impeller: a propeller or a paddle.

    I will use it for a small boat with capacity ~20 people, therefore rough gross weight would be around 2.5 tons.

    It will very helpful if someone can share any research paper comparing both of them.

    EDIT:

    I am thinking of this kind of design using paddle/fins.

    A paddle or a paddle wheel? A paddle can be as efficient as a propeller but a paddle wheel not even close..

    Actually I was thinking of this kind of design. Using a conveyor belt having fins driven by motor on one side. The fins here work similar to paddle, that's why I asked.

    I will keep two of these drives mounted below the boat. Only the lower half will be submerged in water.

    It was 170 years ago when that was settled. But you can find the data in fluid dynamics literature.
