I am wanting to export a hull model from Maxsurf to AVEVA Surface and Compartment but I can't seem to find a file format which is supported by both Maxsurf and AVEVA. Does anyone know a way in which this can be done?

    Maxsurf exports:
    • DXF
    • IGES
    • Rhino .3dm
    • .obj
    • .stl
    • .x
    AVEVA Imports:
    • DM file
    • Acis SAT file
    • .blines
    • Topology .mac
    • .cmp
    • .sat
    • .xml

Try to export the file from Maxsurf to Rhino and from Rhino, which have other options, to AVEVA.

Thank you very much for the response. I tried your suggestion and found that this is possible with the use of .sat files. However, I get the following error in AVEVA and the Rhino .sat export will not open:
"Loading entity [ACIS-BODY-0188] without proper database ID. Type is [body]".
Any idea why this error is happening and how it can be fixed? I am not so familiar with Rhino.

I do not know what can happen. It seems clear that the file created has some error that makes it incompatible with AVEVA. Try, if you can, exporting Maxsurf to AutoCAD and from this application create a .sat file or similar. AutoCAD is very reliable creating files of other formats.
If you can not do it, send me your Maxsurf file and I will try to change its format with AutoCAD.

The hull model that you`re trying to export has the internal arrangement? If yes, try to export just the hull form to Rhino, then recreate the internal surfaces in AVEVA Surface and Compartment. If not, probably Rhino is working with a tollerance bigger than Surface and Compartment can handle (I already had the same problem). AVEVA Surface Manager can handle IGES files and transform it in SAT file, but you'll need another license for Surface Manager (I solved using it). If you don`t have AVEVA Surface Manager, I agree with Valber, you should try Marcus PolyCAD, it`s a very good tool, very easy to use, and free.

Hi I am trying to extract large number of stability data out of the database file. The parameters were stored under different names in the database. Does anyone know where I can get explanations/descriptions on these parameters? Specially the criteria parameters.
I couldn't create a new post. If you know a relevant post please direct me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

@Nisham could you be more concise and detail what specific parameters you are referring to?
Where do you intend to export them from, what is the format of the files that contain these parameters? Where do you intend to import them?

ACIS sat is a proprietary file format, you have to buy an application that can do the conversion from IGES to SAT, or maybe use a trial time period of an application, it's impossible to find something for free with this capability. Moi3D can do that and is a cheap one, also Rhino and many others CAD in the market.
