What Year is this

    Have a vintage Crestliner Apollo 16 AMF Boat. Trying to figure the manufacture date. Code on fiberglass is CRL45063M73J. Also would like to purchase a custom boat cover. Has any other member had experience with boat covers that are not generic? lkj

    Welcome to the forum.

    As with custom paint jobs, custom boat covers (or custom whatever) are made to order and the most costly way to go for a boat cover. You boat isn't so oddly shaped, that a standard cover couldn't fit or with slight modification, could be made to fit better. Lastly, making a good fitting and functioning cover isn't particularly hard nor expensive, so consider this option as well. The key with covers is how they attach and ventilation. Keeping the cover off the boat, so abrasion from wind and weather doesn't scuff things up, as well as proper ventilation are the keys to a good cover.

    Note the post #4 boat cover picture is not specific for the boat which is named in the linked ad, but it's a general ad picture which is used for many other boat cover ads, by the same company I'll guess, didn't check that though. Click the linked examples if you want to go to these other ads, but not all seem to work, so maybe some expired ads there, or maybe some use of the picture on other places than in the original ads.

    CRL45063M73J. This is the old format HIN. The model year and date of manufacture are in the last 4 digits. M73 means it is a model year 73. J represents the month, starting with A for August 72 and proceeding through L, July 1973. So J would be May 1973.
