Knot (as in tying rope) recommendation?

I'm trying to find a slip knot that only slips when I want it to, not when bumped, rolled, shoved etc by other forces. Basically a "mind reading" self aware AI knot.

I'm using some of these style suspenders M1950 Military Issue Army Trouser Suspenders New Surplus Lot of 2 NWT | eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/302275651814 but instead of just the two hooks on either side, I'm running lines through two of the pant's belt loops on either side, so the pants will have 4 support points, and the lines will be in roughly "A" frame shape running up to the suspender's hook. I want to be able to instantly and easily adjust the lines, not the GI suspenders (got them pretty maxed out).

Problem is with conventional slip knot up against my body-in-motion, there is some push and pull with every twist and turn, or every step, so the slip knot gets activated and gradually, but fairly quickly, works loose in the direction of tension.

Does there exist a knot (or system) that would allow easy one handed adjustment, but at the same time will stay put when subjected to other forces? How about easy two handed adjustment?

Hoping for strictly cordage solution, rather than plastic buckles and other tech.

PS-the reason for all this is to keep belted pants from getting shoved down in the back while carrying a large freighter frame backpack with big wide hip belt. Even with the hip belt riding fairly high on the hips it wants to pull my pants down in back for "plumber's crack" and make my pants all saggy like some teen-age thug. That restricts movement

It looks like you need better pants support to be more successful at a life of crime. I think that using a single line that goes through the loops and comes up to the suspenders would equalize the force on all four points. All you need is one knot to adjust all of them. I hope this helps with your "grab and run" career.

That is also called a tent hitch, IIRC.

Yep, just as I thought, the rolling hitch(Ashley version 1) is the taught line hitch.

Yes, post #6 is the ‘‘Ashley’’ Rolling Hitch #1, which is knot #1734 from ‘‘The Ashley Book of Knots’’ on page 298.

Post #4 is the ‘‘Ashley’’ Rolling Hitch #2, which is knot #1735 from ‘‘The Ashley Book of Knots’’ on page 298.

I'll dig up some online info for the OP's suspenders about the Safety Belt Hitch, which is knot #452 on page 74 of ‘‘The Ashley Book of Knots’’.

OK, I've looked into the Internet Archive, a non-profit library with millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and some more...

They have the ‘‘The Ashley Book of Knots’’ available there in the free public domain*, and also in PDF format . . . :)

    * Mr. Ashley died on Sept 18 in 1947, now over 70 years ago, so the copyrights of the book are free according to the copyright laws in the USA.

Here's page 74, starting whit knot #452, aka the Safety Belt Hitch, which looks good to me for the the OP's suspenders wishes . . .

The rope, with knot #452 (the Safety Belt Hitch) on it, is pictured in the left top corner.

On Animated Knots I've also came across the below picture of Ashley's knot #452, the Safety Belt Hitch . . .

‘‘ Ashley also describes a Safety-Belt Hitch used by Steeplejacks (ABOK #452, p 74), where three turns, not "tucked up", are used in the first part of the knot before the final Half Hitch is placed. ’’

An other option I'll think, for holding up the OP's pants, as this problem keeps me awake right now, would be the Death Grip Belt Hitch ‘‘DG BH’’ as shown in the below long video, made by Red Barn Boats . . .

‘‘ Tying the last of the various versions of the Death Grip Hitch. This is the belt version, and can be used in numerous ways to hold things together, or just to hold up your pants. The Death Grip Belt Hitch can be loosened and tightened without having to undo the knot. This knot is more for long term use. Make it and leave it. Hold things together. Use with sticks to make a splint, etc. . . ’’

Just saw among the ‘‘Similar Threads’’ (as referred to at the bottom of each thread page on these forums) that our forum mate SamSam has linked the ‘‘Animated Knots Website’’ on June 20 in 2008 already, so it could well be I've got it from there at some time in the past, so we actually have to thank Sam, I believe . . :)

    Thanks Sam !
