Power returned late last night, finally.

Best let it power the generator now, so it runs in reverse which will fill up the fuel tanks, I believe . .

Good to hear that everyone survived the storm and is on the way to normal-cee. Kudos to Angel for being a gardian-Angel and looking out for everyone.

 

I can't say there is any "crying wolf" on the part of the authorities. Look at what happened in Houston. I little more "crying" might have encouraged more people to get out, but how would you know the thing was just going to sit over the area for days. I think it is the news broadcasters that want to sensationalize the whole ordeal. It's kind of a circus show with the weather idiots. "Look here. Watch me do what you should never do!" One of them is going to get a Darwin award one of these days. The prime example in this event was the forecast storm surge. 10-15 they said and when it was maybe only 5-6 feet, almost nothing was said any more. The dire-ness of it was gone so it wasn't news worthy and so it was barely mentioned again while people are watching with great concern about their personal property that is potentially in harms way. Sorry for the rant. I have some personal property that was down in the path of the hurricane and I was also fully expecting to lose one of my boats as a result of the dramatized storm surge.

God be with those that have suffer losses from these recent storms.

 

I have stuff to do, but with the A/C on for the first time today, I lounged around sucking it all up, knowing I can continue cutting branches and fixing fencing and stuff tomorrow.

I think some of the rarely taken very seriously, weather broadcasters went over the top, for lack of anything new to report, that particular hour of broadcasting, but for the most part, Florida reacted promptly, getting people out, setting up support, getting things where it needed to be, etc. Was it more than necessary, well I was without power for a 6 1/2" days, so how much better could they have been? I'm in a rural location, so naturally well down on the priority list, for power restoration.

It's hard to blame the broadcasters, for doing what they've been trained to do, yet not very frequently having to say, this one is a big deal, when the occasion does come along. Complacency and the how bad can it get association, that often comes with these reports, is what happened in Texas, while having just seen this, Florida decided to take a different approuch. I'm not sure which was more effective, but I'll bet there's still plenty of folks in Texas that still haven't any power too.

Power crews are working hard and the work is dangerous, with one crushed and one burned that I have heard of so far, after having come to our state to help us. Let us pray for them with their families so far away.

No need to apologize, Angel. I'm a bit premature in putting Pine Island as my location, thus the weak attempt at putting it in code. I have a house under contract there and was supposed to close on it on the 12th. Needless to say, that didn't happen. I've been put in to limbo in my attempt to escape from Buffalo, NY. My belonging are currently divided between storage facilities in Florida and New York. The current owner (seller) hasn't been heard from since landfall. He's down Ft Myers way. Other than a few missing palm fronds, my little parts of the state managed to miss the worst of it.

I think a lot of people are wiping their brow and saying, "Whew, that was a close one."

Thanks Angelique. Glad to have power back. It was 5 and 1/2 days. Life without power was a real eye opener.

 

Now Hurricane Maria is heading for places battered just a week or two ago, that must be having a lot of residents wondering about the possibilities of living elsewhere, especially if this is part of a pattern of increasing frequency and severity of hurricanes.

 

No, I am staying. I love it here. Look at the hurricane tracks over the last hundred years. You have blue ringed octopus and we have hurricanes.
