23ft cat

a friend of mine has just bought a 23ft cat built in america here in the uk.

does anyone recognize the hull and know what make it is as we can find any makers plates on it.

any info much appreciated.

On the upper starboard transom, you'll find a MIC prefix on the mandatory (well since 1974) HIN number. The first 3 digits will identify the builder.

How do we know it is built in the USA ? Not saying it is not, but it resembles some of the South African cats, they seem to be an extremely popular type of boat over there.

 

just going on what we were told.

the owner before the previous owner was the chap who imported it over from America.

i think he has got paper work for it somewhere.

There are dozens of trailable power cat makers over there, where they are known as "ski" boats ! Seems remarkable that a smallish market can support that, but the locals there have a lot of difficulty getting offshore through lack of safe entrances, and are sold on the type, as am I ! But, if you've been told it is from the US, then it probably is. Is it an asymmetric hulled one ?

 

ask him for the paperwork. The Hull ID number should be on the bill of sale or previous registrations. It probably was made in the USA if those running lights on the bow are any indication. They were only allowed (not anymore) under US inland waters rules.

It has some resemblance to a World Cat, but not the same. I'd pretty well rule out South Africa, the boat is rather bigger than what is typically in use there, being a very hard task to beach launch.
