I am new to boat building, and want to start a small boat build. The Chugger boat has peaked my interest. Has anyone here built this little boat, and if so where did you find detailed plans that a beginner can follow, and build from? I have seen the free plans on *********, but they don't seem to be very detailed IMHO.

Not familiar with the "Chugger" boat, I went to the ************** site to find it. It seems that ********* is the entrance to some **** sites. No boats are in evidence.......

Note: *********, is not the same as Angelfire which is a web site builder. That one shows no boats either.

Is the OP a troll or does he wish to clarify his first post?

The Chugger is one of Steve Lewis's designs. Steve was a member and well regarded participant here, until his death a few years ago. His site is no longer active, it appears, though you might try contacting Chuck at >duckworksmagazine.com< and see if his wife is able to produce the plans.

If you really want a CHUGGER you can design it yourself: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=42646.0

"This design is loosely based on the "Chugger" by Lewis Boat Designs.I plan to make my boat a little more sea worthy than their Chugger 8.My design is 19'4" over all hull length and 6' wide.Draft is 8 inches with captain Ben and 12 inches loaded for a weekend trip.Estimated compacity is 1500lbs or 6 persons.Power is any out board up to 30hp.Head room is 6'6".Sleeps 6,4 inside and 2 in the rear chicken pit.A folding removeable Bimini top will enclose the rear chicken pit.It has a head, galley, dinette, wheel house,A/C,ac/dc power, queen size forward birth, side windows will open out,and front windows will fold up.May install a sky light.Plans are to use battery power with a small genset for back up.Depending on the engine I use, fuel compacity will be, 20 for weekends and 30 for week long trips.20 gallon tank will be built in with a 10 gallon portable tank for reserve.I have it all planned in my head, just gotta get it out on paper."

I had no problem finding Chugger but not in the referenced location. ********* is still the **** portal. Angelfire is different.....note spelling used by OP.

Pardon me for being a bit trigger happy.

Yes you are right. ************** is a real ****portal. Very rare here. At yahoo "Smallboats" it was quite normal. Do you think "eddiebo" is a ****spammer and not interested in chugga?

No way to know about the OP Manfred.

This forum is a high class place to communicate with others. I am, perhaps, a bit sensitive about any possible corruption.

The OP may be a perfectly decent individual, I am fully aware. Let us hope so and then we can help him find whatever information he needs for Chugger.

I have found the plans as I stated in my initial post. Just wondering if there are any revised plans to use. I assure you I'm no spammer and excuse me if I misspelled anything. Why would that make me some spammer? I just want plans for this little boat besides the one I saw on the web by Mr Lewis. Sorry to hear of his passing. I just want to build this boat. Of course I have seen pics on the web including those that have been modified/stretched or cabin design change. I am no spammer, just a guy that wanna build a boat.

This is where I went. Excuse me if my spelling was wrong or whatever the big issue is. Not perfect, and not at all pleased to be labeled as something I'm not. Just want detailed plans to build this or similar boat with detailed plans. I'm still not sure what the heck I did so wrong to be tagged with a label, but anyways here is the link I was referring to.

Steve was an amature designer and is now gone, so questions and help will not be coming. I've seen some of his plans, which are basic and assume you have some building experence, though they are aimed at novice builders. As to detail, well this is the crux. Steve provided offsets and left the accommodations to the builder for the most part. These are simple boats, so how much detail do you need?

Simple is what I am looking for, and not a lot of time, and boat building skill required. I am a woodworker/furniture builder, so basic skills are present. I built our last home also, but never a boat. I did do a pontoon made using 55 gallon drums, but no real boats per say.

Eddiebo, I meant no harm to you and had no intent to offend you. Please excuse me for whatever paranoia I might have exhibited.

You can be sure that the members here will be as helpful as possible, including a Chugger build. Chances are that I/we/collectively presumed wizards, will recommend a somewhat different boat but never mind all that.

Tell us about your intended use and about the conditions that you would expect to encounter when you use the Chugger. How many people will the usual crew include, is this to be a fishing boat, a party boat, a ski pulling boat, how big an engine will you expect to use, how fast do you need to go, what kind of sea or water conditions do you reckon to operate in, or just what is it that you anticipate. The first order of business when selecting a boat is something that we call an SOR.....or Statement Of Requirements. That makes all the difference in thedesign selection process. If you have the skills to build a Chugger, you also have the skills to build a somewhat more sophisticated boat.

As I stated I built a homemade 16ft pontoon boat using 55 gallon plastic barrels, but never made a boat using plans. Nervous I guess, because a boat has to be a well thought out project that stay afloat lol....the size. That little Chugger just caught my eye, and thought it would be a great starter. I got plans for The Harmonica boat from Jim Michalak but felt more comfortable starting with something smaller, but I guess the process is much the same no matter. The pontoon boat didn't need plans. It was a pretty straight forward build with 2x4 lumber etc... I see that Mr. Lewis have passed on so I guess I am at a road block on revised Chugger plans. I guess I need to take a deep breath, and pull out the Harmonica plans from Jim Michalak and go for it.

I'm not sure you would need much help in modifying the plans to fit you needs, the design is so basic that adding or subtracting a few inches or feet here or there wouldn't be an issue.
