You're right Sam, a mansard roof is four-sided sloped, and a gambrel roof is two-sided sloped, and has two end facades straight up to the ridge. In Dutch mansard and gambrel don't have different names, at least far as I know. So in Dutch to my knowledge mansard and gambrel are referred to as four-sided and two-sided sloped "mansardedak". I didn't take into accout they do have different names in English, hence my mistake. I'll edit the Jerome barn post for this.

I'm not a fan, but as manny I know the song of the late Belgian Flemish folk singer Wannes Van de Velde where he sings about "Mijn Mansarde" (My Mansard), it's about the Antwerp garret where he was housed as a kid.

In the above building, main entrance at the balloons, was the parental house where the song is about, but there's some poetic license involved since the roof is neither mansard nor gambrel, it's gable, but at the left corner of the building, out of sight of the picture, it has a hip roof, maybe he was housed there as a kid . . ? ?

    Hi Jolly,

The 1,350 × 1,347 pixels of the nice picture is extremely disrupting the layout of the whole page on my laptop screen . . :(

Since the screen is to small for this kind of big formats, and I have nothing else here right now . . :(

Tablets and phones are programmed to resize shown pictures themselves so they fit automatically on the screen, as full display of the original often is far to big there.

But laptops and desktops won't automatically resize far as I know, and at least for me they don't . . :(

Pictures max approx 1,000 pixels wide would work fine for most I think.

Would you please be so kind to remove the large picture and leave full display up to the already attached thumbnail . . ? ?

    Thanks in advance . . :)

    Flush deck or sheltered space

    Hi,

    I posted the same post on Sailing Anarchy but I get only 1 brawling answer;

Imoca boats have sheltered safe space where the solo sailor can get protection from wind and waves.
In the already build VOR 65's they prefer flush decks.
Since safety and comfort are high standards on VOR ships.
Why not provide the same sheltered spaces on board the VOR 65's?

Ooops, my bad. I guess I am used to a few other forums that I frequent that automatically resize images that are uploaded.
    Sorry.

I think that happens quite often over there. It appears those some of those guys just want to see who can be the biggest, baddest A-hole, rather then talk serious boats. Its a shame as there are some very knowledgeable participants there.

Perhaps you might get even more response if you find some other subject thread in which to post this,...interesting pics.

I'm afraid the F1 cars in the 1960 Belgian Grand Prix, where Alan Stacey and Chris Bristow both fatally crashed, were less safe than today's F1 cars while they have become much faster over time, but also safer due to higher safety standards . .

Think the same goes for the pictured boats, although in a different class, the about a decade time difference between them declares at least a part of the shown differences there I guess . . :?:

Back during high school, my buddies and I acquired a condemned life boat that came off a ship in Galveston. After welding patches on the hull and painting it we took it for a cruise in Galveston Bay. Not much wind that day.;)
