I have any number of naysayers on an unusual sailing rig design of mine, but I keep pushing back and answering their negatives.

Sometimes I enjoy their negative criticisms so I can answer to them,...makes me do more research, and find other positive reinforcements to my side of the debate.

The problem with this climate change subject is it takes a long time for some of these BIG changes to occur, so we may not see all the BIG negatives until we we are well immersed in them. Then it may be a little late to apply corrective measures.

Trouble is even those that heeded the warnings pay the price as well.

A Warning the World did Not Heed

Just imagine what might have occurred to the 'feed stock' of the oceans had that Gulf Oil Spill occurred under the Arctic or Antarctic ice sheets. :!::!:

Confront the Negatives first and Positives just fall into place.

The link you gave is a discussion by the World Health Organization (WHO) about how ill-prepared the world is to cope with a major pandemic.

On a similar note, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has abruptly canceled a long-planned "Climate and Health Summit",
which was intended as a chance for public health officials around the country to learn more about the mounting evidence of the risks to human
health posed by the changing climate. Although the CDC didn't give a reason for the cancellation, it is widely assumed to be a self-protective response to our new Denier-in-Chief.

Sometimes a frog in a banana leaf will do.

    Hi Hoyt,

The 1,981 × 1,423 pixels of the frog in a banana leaf picture is extremely disrupting the layout of the whole page on my 17" laptop screen . . :(

Since a 17" screen is still far to small for this kind of big formats, and I have nothing else . . :(

Tablets and phones are programmed to resize shown pictures themselves so they fit automatically on the screen, as full display of the original often is far to big there.

But laptops and desktops won't automatically resize far as I know, and at least for me they don't . . :(

Pictures max approx 1,000 pixels wide would work fine for most I think.

Would you please be so kind to remove the large picture and leave full display up to the already attached thumbnail ?

    Thanks in advance . . :)

The Atomic Origins of Climate Science | The New Yorker

A major argument for the reduction and/or elimination of nuclear weapons is that a wholesale exchange of nuclear bombs would create a cloud of dust, obscuring the sun, and create a nuclear winter that would be devastating to both sides of the conflict. Oddly enough, it was the military's initial environmental research into the atmospheric effects of nuclear weapons that lead to further non-military research into the consequences of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

Coral Reef Conditions Are About to Get a Lot Worse | TIME

A recent study, published in the journal Nature Scientific Reports, shows that coral bleaching will affect 99% of reefs each year by the end of the century if current climate change trends continue.

Figure 1: Statistically downscaled projections of the timing of the onset of annual severe bleaching (ASB) conditions
under RCP8.5 for selected coral reef regions.

These exemplify the high local-scale (10’s of km) variation seen in projected ASB timing in most locations and,
though atypical, the low variation seen in Northern French Polynesia.
