The Gentry project you mean? It was for the Blue Riband.

Tom originally held the transatlantic record with Gentry Eagle, see www.gentryeagle.com But then in the early 90s my friend Don Blount designed DESTRIERO, who took the record. Tom doesn't like being beaten, so John Connor and I spent a couple of years developing a 185 foot Surface Effect Ship for this mission. Our final target, after we got the model test data reduced and had good confidence in our design numbers, was that we should be able to cross the Atlantic in the same time that it took Charles Lindbergh - about 44 hours.

But as I said, it's all vapourware now, since Tom was killed in the accident just while we were negotiating with builders for construction.

I think the turbines are still in South Florida if you know anybody that wants them.

That Gentry is a nice yacht.Bit too much for our area though,imagine piling a dead head at 60 mph....or a whale

Anyways I grew up with power,and after boating for 30+ years (since being a little kid) I have seen maybe two sailboats actually sailing and making headway north of the Broughtons. And none in any sort of channel.

yeah, Tom took Eagle as far north as Glacier Bay. She normally cruises at about 47. Quite a sight to see her towing the dinghy at that speed.

And if you do see a boat sailing in Greene Point Rapids one day, it's probably me.

But I think we've drifted this thread far enough...time to let it go back to talking about electric drive.
