Yes, I have read every word and studied every picture on his website many times. I like the Skoota 28 the best but I would build sleeping space into the hulls if I were to build one. I don't think I would want one of the folding models or even one narrow enough to travel the highways on a trailer. So, assembly at the destination would be the way I would go.

Thank you Manfred and good of you to bring the Scoota in this discussion. Yes I am aware of them and the 28' is under serious consideration.

There aren't many small cats that combine these attributes and none that I know of where you can buy a finished boat.

Before I order any plans I have to first find a builder in NE Florida. If I were still living in SoCal I would know which builder to turn to with total confidence but now I live in FL where people roll drums of raisin in female molds of boats that are then rigged with 3 or 4 350hp outboards. Call it the Florida flavor.

    Be still my heart:

Very remarkable! Small wake and nice appearance. I can understand that this is your favorite design.

And constant with my luck the designer/builder Bob Oram's website has been closed. This is really the best I've found so far. I must see if anybody Down Under has information about plans.

There are so many pretty catamarans and so many ways of building them, that just making a choice of what you want is a major problem. When you add in the money factor on what you can spend it gets more complicated.

I may be wrong but I think that 75% of the time involved is making it pretty. When you follow someone's build, they get the plywood and fiberglass together pretty fast. Then they spend months or years making it smooth and finishing the interior. You can build a walker tongdee in about a week but it would not be pretty enough to pull up next to your neighbors million dollar boat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6dDARmnctw

You could spend a lifetime improving his boat. I guess you could call it Basic Catamaran, but for no plans, and just making two sharp pointed boxes hooked together it gets you there.

Yes. What counts is the time living with the sea - not the plans, not the building and refining.

Yep, at least he is doing it. I'm setting at home wishing I could handle the physical strain.

Reading through this thread it appears that the Scoota designs are hard to beat unless begwerk strikes gold and finds the Bob Oram plans.

Krauthammer, The thing that most surprises me is that there are not more of them being built. I play on the internet at least 8 hours a day and sometimes 12 to 14, I think if they are being built, the builders are very quiet people.
I wish Richard would give us the number but, I can also understand him not wanting to.

Can't say I'm surprised and you're correct that most builders keep quiet and rather build than talk.
I'm not looking to go power as long as I can singlehand my sailboat but I confess that the Bob Oram cat ^^^ has me very tempted. If a designer stepped forward willing to duplicate it I'd be sorely tested.

But look what I've found in WA State:

I don't know, I have seen exterior pictures and video only. I have no idea about interior room and storage. I would need to know the fuel capacity and how much weight I could load on it. I would want room for a moped type motor scooter.
    But, it does look nice.

I doubt it allows for all that. The length is weight dependant and this 28ft it is a day boat with 2 seats and 6gl tanks strewn about.
