Fishing from a boat with this many appendages will result in cut lines and lost fish.

 

And cut fishing lines are a notoriously bad form of pollution.

If you look closely you will discover that the Thai charter cat has openings all around the cabin area,.... they are just covered in canvas at this this stage due to the strong sun light in Thailand.

Something along this idea on the Thai 'picnic cat ' is one suggestion I might have given Jimmy Buffett for his new fun boat,...as opposed to that monohull mess they sold him on !! Just add a little sailing rig to that Thai picnic cat

Which vessel are you asking about speed/hp? . Power and speed of either vessel could be selective.

An interesting 21st century yacht. Clearly it has been highly influenced by single-handed racing technology, with the single arrowhead hull plan and the deep, cantilever appendages. Definitely NOT what I'd want if I was sailing the Carribean. Those single handed racers, all motor sailors in my prejudiced opinion, were intended for deep water sailing, only touching port once to four or five times during their voyages.

Where this boat is presumably intended to be used, it will be making port just about every day, dealing with local shoals and reefs, not to mention large aquatic animals, such as manatees and groupers.

I really like the single level cockpit/wheel house sole. And the transom gate, which becomes a lavish swim platform, is a real winner.

I'd like the boat much more if it had a little less horse power, a little less sail power, and a nice shoal keel and a protected rudder and propeller. The highly asymmetrical hull plan is not a problem in today's world of reliable autopilots, with powerful electric motors and excellent batteries, to power them. But the deep draft combined with very vulnerable appendages are.

As it is, it looks like an accident waiting to happen.

Reading any of the literature on folks that have circumnavigated, sail, power or motor sail will show 90% + of the time is spent in port or in harbor.

No question a deep draft can be a PIA in some places but only in some places.

Under 6 ft draft and able to take the ground , sheer legs or bilge keels would be to me ideal.

What I meant to say is that I consider the canting ballast keel boats to be motor sailors, because they have to have an engine running very often or constantly to work.

I certainly didn't mean to say all motor sailors touch touch port just one to five times in their voyages. No. They touch port manny, manny times on their journeys. That's the whole point in having them.

What I was referring to were the single-handed racing boats, which this boat in question strongly resembles. These indeed touch port only one to five times on their voyages, as to either finish them, or to stop at required check points.

Now that I think about it, this boat may be the proper compromise for JB, as he now has a sailboat which can double as a sports fishing boat, despite its vulnerabilities.

Beautiful boat ... if he is going to be fishing and cruising the keys maybe not so good. He should have gone with a cat with daggers or mini keel and outboards on a portabracket.

 

...or the banks of the Bahamas, or the inner banks of Hatteras, or the banks of the Turks & Cacaos, or, .....etc

The video of the Gunboat has me thinking that I should move my galley uptop. It's almost the boat I want. If I had a couple million, or whatever, I would buy that one instead of build.

Yes, I've seen his designs. Not really into kits though as I am treating this as a business.

Also I would not use ply. It may be as good as any other material but from a marketing perspective it is terrible.
