have any of you guys seen videos of that stuff that doesnt let water stick anything? i cant find the videos of it but im sure some of you have seen it and could link it.

my question is why isnt this stuff used for boats? it seems like it would increase their efficiency alot, would the boats just sink if it was applied to them?

    thanks.

Haha, this sounds like a job for Maxwell Smart, a paint-on water repellent that causes the boat to sink because water won't touch it !

There are a few different brands being offered and they do shed water nicely, though they are also water soluble, making their effectiveness dubious at best on a sailboat hull. Several racers tried this stuff and enough did that it got banned from most classes. In short, it is effective on your boots, keeping mud puddle water from sticking, but it's durability with repeated emersion is short lived.

That is interesting, Thanks for informing me.

Do you think it would be a good idea just to coat the top side of the boat? cabin, deck and etc?

Also, I found a example of it for those that may be interested.

Again, it's been tried, it washes off, so it's usefulness is very limited.

How much money do you want to spend on something that washes off frequently. I'd rather put money into a better prop or engine tweaks that last years.

And if you think boat would sink because of it you need to think harder...

Take kerosene's comment with sugar ! :D Years ago, old timers would take a teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of kerosene, to ward off colds ! Not sure about aviation kerosene, that might have made you take off !

    Didn't mean to be rude.
But non-descriptive titles make things very hard to sort out. And my comment about the boyancy was triggered by the fact that the "would it sink" has been mentioned before with this repellent coatings. As if friction had anything to do with boyancy.

Understood, I understand how frustrating it can be when the noobies come out and ask questions, But there's no other way to learn. I will try and improve my thread titles in the future.

It seems you already know the question. What you really want to know is the answer. I thought his comment was right on point regarding how you titled the thread.

    Not meaning to be rude.

I have heard of racers putting a film of liquid dish soap on the hulls prior to a race. Other than a temporary speed advantage, it has no real purpose beyond saving fuel. It is probably bad for the fish.
