Hmmm - what's your definition of 'catastrophic'?

Ocean temperatures dropping to -1.8C where I live, that'd be catastrophic.

Temperatures between say 10C and 35C - big deal. Well within long term historic variations.

Still waiting for my promised sea level rise. Sea temperature increase will help that along, so it can't be all bad.

Wait until I get home and crank up the dozer - if the sea won't come to me, I'll dig a channel to the sea.....

Yes we have our new generation hotties and electric blankets, potbelly fires and grand old open fire places which heat by radiation and are really in truth more efficient (like a pizza oven) than new steel compliant double burning steel wood burners.

I would prefer to see a Nuclear power station close by to cope with the needs all new Immigrants and all of their relatives and friends who will no doubt descend on us soon.I would like my last days to be warm, but not by fighting of
violent Religious Cultures.

I already told you about the lab in Lakewood, Colorado that was closed because it fudged and falsified data back in 2008. Funny it took 8 years to shut it down.

 

Yeah but - lots of expensive side effects with coal and oil, that don't show at the meter. Not such a clear cut comparison.

Catastrophic is the climate being drastically altered by high ocean temperatures. Drastic as in economic and social effects.

The problem has been evident this year in the unseasonal rain events.

I was watching the ABC landline program today, and they had a great summary of the weather problems largely caused by the Warming Indian ocean.

Thus contributed heavily to the huge rainfalls and resultant floods in the East Coast of Australia, where for example Tasmania, after 24 + months of below average rainfall, got 12 months worth of rain in a month.

 

So many contradictions and simplifications.
"just slows the rate of heat loss" V "we need heating which most people can not afford ". Its bleeding obvious that if you find heating expensive, you want it retained, even if its just your own body heat.


"stops them from warming from natural sun radiation" - only if you are a poor house designer and don't put in glass areas and passive heat sinks as well as insulation.
If you just build a fridge for a house, of COURSE you don't get the Solar benefit.

 

That's not actually a definition, it's an opinion.... now you have to define what you mean by 'drastically altered'..... then 'high ocean temperatures'. High as referenced to *what* and *when*.

*What* 'unseasonal' rain events? I was doing my degree in geography the last time a really big low hit Sydney in 1974 and pulled all the sand off of the beaches. I can assure you that the recent one is just like that one, and there were many before it. Every so often we get one, that's just how it is. I think there was a minor (relatively) one in 1986 or so, so no great rate of increase.

We spent a lot of time surveying beach profiles and offshore sediment accumulations. One of the best courses I ever did, got to spend a huge amount of time on beaches and the ocean and call it study.....

I've been told all my dams in Tasmania are how full and overflowing, so perhaps it's time that Huey knocked it off for a bit. OTOH a *really good* flood down the local creek might cut a deep channel, so I dunno. Save a hell of a lot of diesel for the dozer, and nobody could point fingers in my direction.

Has anyone taken note of the pollution taking place in the Oceans of Air above us?
New Zealand is going to contribute to the masses of rubbish swirling around up there with satellites being placed just to see what is happening to the water used for irrigation on farms which is already obvious.Just because they can do it and make a few dollars selling the info to already over invested farming community that does not pay their way.
Trivial use of technology.

 

What happens when you run out of ocean plastic, better to stop the pollution at it`s source and not create an unsustainable expensive Industry.

 

You got it right that`s exactly what our government is making us do.Build a "frig" to live in.
Smart designers did not build houses in New Zealand.
Why is my house cold inside when it`s warm outside and not being heated.
It`s because your house is insulated from the free ambient temperatures.
Insulation does not make a home warm it has to have heating or cooling to be comfortable, that no one can afford to do that.
Most parts of New Zealand enjoy climates that do not need heating and cooling 365 days of the year.
Passive heat storage is a myth,if you have masses of concrete to heat to heat them the heat must come from soaking up the heat inside your house
they will gain little heat from any direct solar heating.

 

Have you tried opening a window? Here the windows open so we can enjoy the breeze. The window screens keep out the bloodsuckers which aren't government connected.
