Michlet 9.33 Released

Leo, what issues were causing the slow graphics performance in 9.32 and what did you use to get around it?

 

I updated some internal graphics code libraries I use.

On my own computers, I found that the anti-virus program Avast has an
annoying "feature" called DeepScreen that plays havoc with many other
programs, not just old versions of Michlet. Turning Deepscreen off helped with
the old version of Michlet under Win 8.

 

Michlet 9.33 and Windows 10 (Surface)

It looks like I downloaded and installed Michlet properly. I believe that I even got it to run in a couple of instances. Now, all I am getting is a momentary flash of the command window and then nothing.

I used the original "in" file first, then used some Freeship output and got nothing. Now, I'm back to trying some of the Michlet files that came with the software and still only get the flash of the command window.

The "out" file gets updated and has the error "BAD NX". My Nx and the ones supplied with Michlet are in range, but maybe I'm missing something.

Has anyone experienced this or know what is happening?

I've used Michlet before in and earlier century (exaggeration), but it's all new again to me.

I'm running the michlet batch file from the file explorer (double click), but have also just tried it from a desktop shortcut.

Ok, after reloading the original IN file I get a good run so I', off to read the manual some more.

Is there a chance that I need to create a useroff1 file?

Is Freeship output still a valid file?

 

FreeShip outputs still work fine, at least in my win7-machine. The "bad nx" -output can be a result of a missing parameter or line somewhere earlier in the "in.mlt" -file. Check your in-file line by line comparing it with a working example file, you'll find the bug eventually.

I ended up downloading DelphshipFree and had it do an output. That one worked fine so I compared the two outputs.

From the DS output:

The highlighted line is not in the output file from FS (Ver2.6). I put the missing line into the FS output and Michlet works with the additional line. Mystery solved...for now.

I've stuck with FS because it does Cross Curves and DS free does not. I have to admit that Delphship is smoother running in its graphics than FS now. It will also save to the FS 2.6 format if it senses the file version.

 

Your Freeship version is way out of date. The current version is 3.50 and works fine with Michlet:

Thanks for the link D. Do you have a safe link for downloading an archive utility. I've downloaded the Hydroship before, but I think I picked up spamware/adware/malware from the site that I downloaded the archive utility from. I haven't bother to try again once I got my computer cleaned up. I didn't have a need for VictorT's mods, so I never felt the need to update. I hadn't thought about the export features needing to be updated.

I have always downloaded the software directly from the Hydronship site, with no malware or any other sort of security problems. Checked with both Kaspersky and ESET security software. I guess you have picked the malware by downloading from other sites - like Rapidshare, CNET or similar.

Once downloaded, you just have to extract the files to your existing Freeship folder. You can safely tell the unzipper to replace the existing Freeship files in the folder. It will keep all your existing jobs and designs untouched, and will only update the files which need an update.

A bit of follow up. I think I picked up the bad stuff when I went to a site to download an archive utility to unpack the RAR file. I jumped ahead a decade or two this time and used the Microsoft App Store to pick up the needed utility. As far as I know it's more secure.

Anyways, I downloaded the latest version of Freeship and installed it to its own directory and found it to be buggy. I was surprised to be getting error messages. Daiquiri, are you running Windows 10? I can't say I'm a big fan of 10, but it's what came on my computer. I kept my old version of Freeship in its own directory and it functions without difficulty. Hmmmm...... computers, computers, computers ......

Delpfship, on the other hand, has really polished up and it's 3D acceleration is excellent. I may part with the Bucks necessary to get the higher functionality over basic Delphship. I can't live without my cross curves.

 

I run the Windows 10 and have no problems with the Freeship...

 

Cyberiad website down?

Is anyone else noticing Leo's website cyberiad doesn't seem to work anymore? Is that no longer functioning?

 

I have tried recently to get on his site and find it to be a dead link at the moment.

 

Leo no longer pays to host the site. I suspect he wasn't getting enough 'contributions' from his excellent free software, that everyone is happy to use, but not to show their gratitude in kind, to keep it running. Oh well...

It was all getting too much like engineering for me and I wanted to pursue
some mathematical problems for a year or so without distractions.
(BTW, that's not a swipe at engineers - without engineering, physics is just philosophy!)
