All countries of the world SamSam have the same problem as NZ has, antibiotic medicines not working any more because over use has made the
germs build up their resistance and 100 million people are at risk.
We have cancelled out Natural Evolution and the survival of the strong only, now all of the duds born have a chance to survive.

Lots of people travel in boats but very few are interested in the mechanics of those boats, or understand how they work.
There are lots of variations and have you traveled in the Burmese version which is markedly different than the Thai ? and looked closely at how they are set up. There are many options.

Can you point to any being used in open water ?

What difference does that make, it is the propulsion system that can power a suitable hull anywhere not the traditional hulls from any particular region.

Just like Wikipedia you are confusing the regional hulls with the French invention propulsion which is not an Asian idea.

An Atlantic crossing was made with the help of a long tail S/P drive.
Long tail boats visit many off shore Islands where it gets very exciting seas.

The problem I see is the drive angle will need to be fairly steep to keep the prop in the water, in the rough, this will cause the bow to be depressed more than desirable in some situations, imo,

The Thai long tail has that problem with the motor so high, take a look at the Burmese version that has the shaft protruding low down through the transom
they can run almost horizontal, even slightly raised as the following wake is higher than the boat bottom.
Shaft angle is no big deal anyway as prop design (rake) can compensate especially with S/P drive as just the bottom blades need to be in the water and shaft angle helps the drive stay in the water.

So many ways to propel a boat.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6H5MjW-698
CAM.A.PROPULSION Surface Drive for power boats small and mighty big. Weeds and mud no problem go anywhere your boat will float.

Retractable steerable 360 degrees 30 degrees steering rise and fall.

    Great for electric boats too.

Interesting subject Tom. Sometime ago in the past I posted a bunch of photos of the Thai long tails.

It might be nice if you increase the size of those photos you posted here, particularly the first and second ones.

Care to guess at the percentage of power boats that are utilized in open water conditions vs inland waters?

I venture to guess the inland water ones far outnumber to open water ones, and thus this third-world surface propulsion 'technology' has LOTS of potential applications. :D

interesting subject Tom has brought up. I was unaware that a significant difference existed between the Thai and Burmese versions

https://youtu.be/fSIbej711Pc I need newer imaging software for win 10 that is easier to use so I will take a look, thank`s.

It just depends how much money you want to spend on your boat in the S/P field they would be far to much or me and I would prefer to build my own with off the shelf parts and also repair it myself. Much more fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eudi1XIebAM

They are long skinny dispacement hulls hence they get over all the issues the propulsion package creates.
Need to build them out of 4 x 4 planks too otherwise they will roll over
