I am looking to build a fishing skiff. I'm very good with wood and glass and have been studying how to build a boat.I looking to set crab pot, nets and rod fish nothing fancy. 16-20ft 18ft sounds good. I'm on a tight budget I have a lot of materials already just looking for someone who made plan or a free plan. Any tips or help would be much appreciated thank you

Glen L Marine has several 18' models under outboards with different bottom designs.
Their plans are good and easy to build. About 100.00 BUCKS for full size plans. lots of building pics also.

What sort of power are you looking at? 5 hp, 25hp, 75hp?

How many crab pots and what do they weigh?

    How do I post a pic? Sorry guys I'm new. 35-90hp I know it's a big range. I have a 35hp I can use until I get a bigger motor.

There is a boat called lady big 18ft that what I'm waiting or in that rage or with a motor well. This will be my first boat build so it's kinda special because my granddad built all his boats. Back then I didn't pay attention to much to detail. I'm chasing a dream of being a commercial fisherman.

The cost of a 18' boat VS a 24' boat adding 6' from the transom forward is very little.
Maybe 5 sheets of plywood and $50.00 of frame lumber and some more fiberglass and
epoxy and paint. But the gain is huge...................................and the safety factor is also huge.

You aren't suggesting he just adds 6 feet to the back of an existing design, I presume, but he'd need a bigger engine, trailer etc. Much depends on where it will be used, what loads, what distances to be travelled etc.

There's a huge difference in hull volume between a 18' and 24' boat Stan. This isn't a "stretch" (33%) that could be recommended.

In this size range, there are hundreds of designs to choose from. Sit down and decide what's most important to you in the design. Speed, capacity, stability, sea state condisions you'll generally use it in, etc. This will focus the design choices. A tight budget is a tough one, as building new is a lot more costly, than simply finding a well used boat and refurbishing it. Replacing a transom, maybe new soles, installing a new outboard and a paint job, are much easier than starting from scratch.

    That's quite a 'stretch' . Should be treated as a new boat/design.
Be aware that plans (and materials) from most countries other than the US (and in some cases Canada)may be in SI (metric). This could add some complexities to a simple build.

I'm looking for a 18 foot skiff with a motor well if not it's OK, I have a center console already made. I'm just looking for a set of plans to look over and study really was hoping to veiw some free plans that are not metric lolMost of what I do most likely will be custom. Yes I'm on a budget but I'm in no rush.
