I had a look there and could not find it .The reason I like this design apart from how she is so good looking, she has the look of a good stable load carrier suitable for a long European river trip.I hope to do the Vistula River in Poland and I need something of this style to take my 6ft2frame with a load

    Thank guys
It's alway nice to bump into and glean information from people with a similar interest on my favourite subject, boats.. Living in Ireland I have acess to a wealth of information on our own traditional skin on frame Currachs. But the thought of building something different has caught hold. The hylan beach pod look the part, so I think I'll start there.

Even abrasion would not be a too big a deal with 26 oz. I have a Baidarka using the 15 oz and it is amazingly tough.

For a much larger skin-on-frame, like something the Irish Monks might have sailed the Atlantic, rather than using ox hides I wonder if it might be viable to use nylon over the frames, or some other fabric like polyester, and then glass a few layers over that?

Not much reason to combine a soft fabric and a hard one like fiberglass, either go all glass or stick with heavy duty fabric. The difference in flex and stretch means they won't work well together and one will just be adding weight.

George Dyson made some skin on frame boats using fiberglass in the early days, they worked but where way heavier than the newer boats using fabric. If I remember from his books they used some sort of plastic wrap or really light fabric to support the glass until it hardened.

The 26 oz ballstic nylon is crazy stout, would probably work on a fairly large boat.
