In Cruising World april 1982 on page 144 to 148* there's an interesting article by Tom.

In the right bottom corner of page 148*, above the ads, are the names of Tom's wife and children.

* Use the magnifying glass button at the top line for enlargement there.​

The last child named there has the same name as this Project Manager in Cape Canaveral, and he looks like Tom I think.

One of his specialties is Marine Engineering, you could ask him if he's related and about the plans.

 

That was $ 3.00 in 1910... (see top right corner)

Now ---> $ 210.00 --- £ 575.00 --- price ? ? --- etc. --- etc. ---

Hmmm, these new ads of the 1905 book say 216 pages, the above 1910 ad says 332 pages . . .

P.S. - The book doesn't seem to be available in digitized format yet . .

 

BTW, worth to post the picture here . . .

 

Per the Consumer Price Index (which admittedly starts in 1913, not 1910) that $3 in 1913 is worth $71.91 2016 dollars (vs $13.45 1973 dollars).

I wonder if shows like the Antiques Road Show took inflation into account in the "increase" in value they imply has happened when they ask folks about how much they paid for something back in the day I wonder what that might do to enthusiasm for collecting?

Yes when changing tack is to occur the speed slowing would mean a sharp heel event on reaching the next course. As you know it is a dynamical issue for such dive planes.

The use in racing type sailboat design is nonfunctional. But for ocean transit the tack is a fairly rare event.

Ok so I did manage to get in contact with Tom Colvins son and they are not currently selling his plans but that may change so I guess they may be working on sorting it out

 

Just saw on Kenn's Linkedin under 'Specialties' there is also 'Boat Building and Design'.

His father's plans would be a good starting point to develop those ambitions further I think.

On the JRA (Junk Rig Association) forum there's an Oct. 2014 e-mail to Kenn and an answer from him regarding his father's death.
