DIY Antarctica Saildrone, Self Steering, Communication with Camera

There are Self Steering and Satellite Communication Questions here.

This is my 30th year since I read National Geographic Antarctica Journeys.
Long post , short , I am older and cant fit in tiny space in -70 celcius cold.

First question :

Now I want to send a sail drone to there. Its lot easier than sending myself. Now, After years , its easy to design a monohull or trimaran with solar cell and very strong sail on to it. My main question , how to communicate with the camera ? What kind of free satellite communication , diy circuits are available ? May be I access to sat with internet to download the picture without direct communication. I dont know such a thing but You may know.

Second Question :

Where can I find most elegant basic energy efficient GPS Steering Solution ?
May be analog way is possible but I cant make a clock work to program it.

Maybe you should explain more about this "project". Particularly the "why" part !

 

This seems to answer the 'why' part.

 

I thought little bit and may be sending the drone to venice is a lot more basic project.

May be satellite communication options are better , may be I can send through coast lines and even a cell phone would be enough.

I always wanted to see venice , murano island , channels , coast lines and the mist on venice bay.

I'd suggest an Antarctic cruise from South America would be far preferable to this scheme, which has basically no chance of success.

 

Very interesting idea. I'm going to do some research on this and maybe try something on Lake Michigan. There's cell service over much of the lower lake. It might be fun to send it down to Chicago or something. I think the boat should be fairly small so it doesn't pose a hazard to other boats.

As for Antarctica, I think the only communications available for a camera would be a satellite phone and that would be really expensive. But maybe if another vessel passed nearby you could upload images through their systems.

It is probably doomed to fail, but who knows? And a lot cheaper than a cruise from South America.

 

That I seriously doubt. Anything that can survive the "roaring forties" won't be cheap. Let alone all the rest of the paraphenalia needed for remote control. A million bucks would not be enough, imo.

 

I wouldn't be that pessimistic. Manned spacecraft are far more expensive than unmanned spacecraft. Manned aircraft are far more expensive than drones.

 

I hope he doesn't intend to launch from Turkey, all his expensive communications gear and electronics will be pinched long before it clears the Med. I'd give it about a 10% chance of not being stolen.
