If you put a seat on it I might be interested. That I would call being innovative.
Kneeling, standing and paddling is not be much fun.

There are more stand-up-cats. The first one I have seen around 40 Years ago as a surf board in Denmark.

Yes Jim, the supcat has cat bows and finished with mono bows because with all done in multihulls we lost lateral stability, because in that case the cat hull create a kind of seesaw movement.

Most Multihulls S.U.P that are on the market require rudders system in each hull and the Supcat not required.

All customers report great stability, comfort and speed.

Might create a version with seat, i believe that would be comfortable and interesting as well.

Thanks for the advice and opinions! :)

I have seen people fishing on them using a large cooler for a seat and fish storage.

    Jean,

    thanks for sharing your board video with us but I am afraid that the US SUP market is not as easy as you think it is. We have a saying "barking up the wrong tree". In the interest of helping you bark up the right tree I suggest you;

-Forget about the Toronto boat show because it is expensive and does not offer a large number of potential customers. "Canoecopia" in Madison Wisconsin (2nd week of March) is the biggest paddle sports show in the world -it's cheaper and has 100 to 10,000 times the customers for paddle craft. Rutabega.com puts it on -nicest people you will ever meet. I suggest you forget about a bringing a boat or even a booth and just print some brochures and attend. All the big producers and many customers will be there. You will quickly see where you fit.

-Don't suggest moving production from cheap Brazil to expensive US. The US dollar is just too strong.

    - I am not big on SUP but I know enough to see you don't have a performance advantage. The vast majority of SUP buyers are not paying for top performance but the ones who are will be insulted. If you expect to sell based on performance you start by winning races. Hawaii is where the world looks to SUP performance -if you can win there, you have something.

-'Supcat' seems backward, "CatSUP" or "KatSUP" would be better and a cute riff on the condiment.

-Since you are looking for business you should post in a more appropriate thread like
    http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/projects-proposals/
    or http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/marketplace/
    or http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/services-employment/

This forum is for design guidance -on that topic I would say give up on the half-cat/half-board and either make a true high performance cat that can beat the Hawaiians or make a very attractive SUP board to export. If you go the cat hull route let me know. I could put together a winning business plan that produces several attractive niche craft.

    Hi Skyak,

I entered at the Rubataga.com and canoecopia site, really cool! Thank You!

Yes, the dollar is very strong but some american friends told me that give preference for equipment made and developed in USA. But most boards developed in the US are manufactured in Thailandia, Taiwan and China.

The Supcat was developed for crossings and leisure not necessarily for competitions but its performance and especially stability is praised by clients and competitors in Brazil.

Soon we will have Supcats participating in competitions in Hawaii mostly in the race Oahu / Molokai. :)

I posted on www.boatdesign.net/forums/marketplace forum but also posted here to know everyone's opinion about what they think about the Supcat.

Thank you for your advice and information.

    Sincerely,
    Jean Dupont

    Jean,
your welcome and good luck! Let me know if you will make it to Canoecopia, we could meet.

I see the stability in your design but you have too much whetted surface and wave interaction for low drag. The one potential positive I see for your board tail over a full cat is surfing/planing down waves. From what I read the SUP cats advantage is on downwind days with small, confused, or undeveloped waves. But for developed waves most racers have a planing board. I also wonder if the cat bows might 'trip' in waves by digging in -requiring extra care/skill vs surf mono hulls.

Considering non-racers, stability is the most notable characteristic/selling point. For stability I would favor the full cat and offer variable beam. The value proposition is simple and clear -rather than buy a stable beginner board then upgrade later (at significant expense) buy the cat with adjustable beam/stability. Even after the users skills are developed, the ability to adjust stability to conditions will be valued.

Here's another fast and stable cat design based on a sailboard:

    http://cctexan.tripod.com/xsspeed/index.html

I experimented with the xs speed many years ago, with a seat and troll motor set up it was pretty fast.

Cleaning out my storage unit, shell is for sale, in the central Texas area- send me a PM if interested.

OK Skyak, thank you very much! :) What is your e-mail to inform you of my decision to go to Canoecopia?

The Supcat has 25% less wetted surface in relation to a race board of the same size. The waves pass through the central tunnel and promotes the dowwind time glide over the waves to the surface of the stern.

Yes, the sea with bigger waves SUP Downwind boards has a better glide. i'll haven't done the test with Supcat X Downwind SUP boards.

I believe that in the near future there will be more boards with hybrid hull, multihull with great efficiency and even with the use of hydrofoils.

Interesting about the variable width but i would make the product more expensive to produce but is an interesting option.

Can you post a picture of the bottom of the Supcat? I'd like to see how you blended the hulls. I looked through all your pictures but did not see any that show the bottom.

Interesting design. I would be interested in how it stood up to claims. It is more of a tunnel hull influence than a displacement or semi-displacement cat. I have been in the great lakes region for decades and have never seen one. The one noteworthy point is that it has a constant tunnel -like the designs in the picture above. Is it more important to minimize wave drag and interference between hulls than to balance and minimize the half angle like a displacement cat?
