I don't know why the photo in the post a few back (6956) keeps disappearing. It's an interesting photo and is strangely disturbing. I'll try it again...

have you tried just posting the url rather than embedding, SamSam? occasionally, original hosts prevent embedding as they want the traffic on their site.

I'll try that. I like to put the picture up so it's seen. This one is gigantic though, so it messes up the whole layout of the page. I searched the image, but there is no other size on the internet, so I went to some internet re-sizing site which resizes it, and it will stay here for awhile but then disappears.

Can someone tell me how to shrink random computer images?

Like I said, I don't quite know what to think about it.

Reminds me of Lrrr, ruler of planet Omicron-Persei 8, after he eats the hippy ... observing, IIRC, that his hands can touch everything but themselves ... oh, wait, they can.

First boat down the Grand Canyon, taken a couple of weeks ago. It was 25'F outside at the time. I could find no pictures of the first boat up the river, Kiwi I think it was.

I think it was more than a couple weeks ago.:D

But seriously, if you like the story, Stegner's book is excellent.

I was talking to an ex gf a couple days ago wishing her Merry Christmas. She's a tour guide at the Canyon, and my boss in the 'Glades now does maintenance at Phantom Ranch, which is a bit of a change, I imagine.

I took the picture on 12th December, but you are right, the expedition was long ago. I was particually struck by the Ham radio (2 valve!) communications from the bottom of the canyon.

I was also astounded at the honeymooners lost whilst attempting the same trip. They found e boat, apparently undamaged.

An excellent book as you say.

I thought J.W. Powell was the first in the 1870's, 20 years before radio...
